dadude Posted October 29, 2005 Report Posted October 29, 2005 (edited) rockin! (*bad stator*) I just got my puller and flywheel nut off today, had to take it to autoshop let the guy do it with impact of course. soon as we removed the flywheel sure enough you could see the copper coils severed on some of the perimeters. Slapped used one on and now she cranks on first kick everytime better than it did when I bought it, big thanks to all on forum who helped and to the compilers of the elecfaq! waaahooo -- now i gotta go get that nut impacted back on and she bees runnin gud. hah. midnite Posted October 29, 2005 Report Posted October 29, 2005 The first thing you want to do is disconnect the tors "brain box" which is located above the left hand cylinder {as you are sitting on the bike} on the frame. It's a small black box. Disconnect that and never plug it in again. To pull start it hook it to another bike/car/truck with a rope or chain. Have someone pull you to 10-15 mph. When at that speed, pull the clutch lever in, shift into 2nd gear, then release the clutch lever {have the choke pulled out}. They may have to drag you 30-40 yards before it will start. Quote
dadude Posted October 29, 2005 Author Report Posted October 29, 2005 (edited) Well I guess trying to pull start it is pointless.. still not getting no spark off the plugs.. So I blew the dust off the old multimeter. Needless to say tonight I only got to test the 3 stator coils, ignition coil wire leading into the stator. red/green and came out with a big fat infinity/zero(no beep)Got 121 on pickup coil rednwht/grnwht(beep). Got a BEEP on Lighting coil(yellow/black) with a reading of 2(this digital one doesn't do 0. I think so i'm hoping the 0./2-4 range is correct also. This digital multi is old I think the values are flubbing slightly, gonna see how the rest of the numbers come out tomorrow. If they're on point I guess I can get me a stator.. atleast most likely it's not my cdi box right? but then again wouldn't that be easier to change out? How hard is new stator to install? Just curious. Ricky stator? or which if the above is the case.. . Also disconnected the TORS power hardness from the loop, should I plug it back in until I get one of those boxes to replace it? or Can I just unplug and unscrew it or will effect the rest of the electrical system/starting? "Your ohmmeter should read between 13.7 and 20.5 Ohms, so if it reads 15 Ohms your stator ignition coil is OK, if it reads Quote
