Banshee 79 Posted October 28, 2005 Report Posted October 28, 2005 My Compression right now is at 160 psi. I am running on pump gas, if I advance my timing 4 degrees do you think i will have detonation on pump gas? I really dont want to run race gas. Thanks!! Quote
Bansheeo831o Posted October 28, 2005 Report Posted October 28, 2005 IMHO, yes. It seems to be the common thought among HQ'ers that advancing your timing 4 degrees for anything above 150psi is going to mean Race fuel..or atleast a mix of it, just my two cents and by the way..if you do decide to advance it...it will knock your socks off jus remember at that compression..you need more octane = money going Lol good luck man..hope more hq members post, i may be wrong(but i doubt it) Quote
Stinger Posted October 28, 2005 Report Posted October 28, 2005 I'm running 153psi and +4 timing on 91 octane...been doing it for a year now. Quote
RNBRAD Posted October 28, 2005 Report Posted October 28, 2005 Just depends, you could detonate and the next person may not. Quote

Thanks!! 430665[/snapback] It would be cutting it real close. You would definitly want to make sure that your main jetting was a bit rich if you do go +4 on pump fuel. Also, you wouldn't want to run it WOT if the motor was running real hot as this can also contribute to detonation. If you do go +4 with 160 psi you'd be plenty safe if you added 1 gallon of 110 octane to every 4 gallons of 91 octane pump fuel, resulting in 95 octane mix. Quote
Banshee 79 Posted October 31, 2005 Author Report Posted October 31, 2005 Thanks for the replies guys !!!! Quote
slowpokebanshee Posted November 2, 2005 Report Posted November 2, 2005 I run 8 degrees with milled head (.030") and with 91, heard detonation, now I just add a little octane boost (pep-boys, eight bucks) and it treats ten-gallons, way cheaper than race fuel, and easier to find. Quote
