endofitall9 Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 Just talked to the guy, and asked him if I could just get a piston kit from himalong with porting the cylinders but they were $200 and I get them for $125 all day any size. So I wanted to know do I need to send the pistons to get them ported along with my cylinders and if I don't want is the advantages and disadvantages. Josh Quote

fiveOnick Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 Pistons are usually modified in applications for drag racing only where longivity is not expected or needed. Less metal equals less strength, no way around it. Quote
scotts96fast Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 every ported piston I've had crack. 423378[/snapback] same here...just port the jugs. I went through two sets of ported piston in two years.i'm on the forth year with my current pistons and just replaced the rings last year. Quote
rebelbanshee2 Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 Read it again, I dont think hes getting his pistons ported.... The builder shouldnt need pistons to port, however he should bore it after he ports and he will need pistons for that. If he wants $200 for pistons Id buy them from someone reasonable and send them to him to bore Quote
locogato11283 Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 if u port it, the cracks will come... Quote
endofitall9 Posted October 6, 2005 Author Report Posted October 6, 2005 The perdicament was, That I got a set of extra cylinders that need to be bored, well I'm gonn ahave Gorr port them, the only reason I was gonna buy pistons from him is because I thought maybe I had to get them matched to the port job but now I know I dont so it makes everything alot easier, I just think $200 a kit is a little bit steep, expecially when I get my wisecos for $125 thanks for the info guys Quote
