fmfbanshee98 Posted September 28, 2005 Report Posted September 28, 2005 I just got a new clutch and clutch basket. Went to the dunes a couple weekends ago and went good on friday then mid saturday it started to slip real bad. Is my clutch gone already? Quote
stclark816 Posted September 28, 2005 Report Posted September 28, 2005 You sure you put everything back together correctly? Did you adjust it correctly? Remember to put oil back in? Quote
2003LimitedBanshee Posted September 28, 2005 Report Posted September 28, 2005 Ditto, plus did you allow any break-in on the new clutch discs before put some abuse on it. If not, it's possible you could have put hot spots in it already, in which case that clutch may be done. Quote
FASTOYS Posted September 28, 2005 Report Posted September 28, 2005 Might need to replace the inner and outer hub as well as a another new clutch! Give me a holler when you get it torn down and i will walk you through what to look for! Quote
fmfbanshee98 Posted October 7, 2005 Author Report Posted October 7, 2005 Well got it torn down and yes i put oil back in it and gave it enough time to break in. With the plates in and the clutch put back together when you put it in gear and try to push it with the clutch lever pulled in it is hard to push it? Anyone have and idea? CLutch does not look fried and does not look to have any spots or warped. Quote
Polish Posted October 8, 2005 Report Posted October 8, 2005 i put stronger springs.....and clutch fibers out of a YZ 490..........grip and rip Quote
1000dollabill Posted October 8, 2005 Report Posted October 8, 2005 did you happen to notice if your trans fluid is at all runny. if i were you i'd check the o ring for the water pump/clutch cover. it's what happened to me. the reason i smoked the clutch in the first place, actually. definately worth checking out. bill Quote
Meat Posted October 8, 2005 Report Posted October 8, 2005 are your clutch alignment arrows lined up ?? Quote
fmfbanshee98 Posted October 8, 2005 Author Report Posted October 8, 2005 It is a ebc clutch. What way do the arrows line up? Quote
1000dollabill Posted October 8, 2005 Report Posted October 8, 2005 the point where the clutch cable connects to has an arrow on it. there is another arrow on top of the case. these two should line up when there is no pressure on the clutch. you will be able to move it by hand if you have slack in the cable. if it doesn't line up you need to pull the clutch cover off and adjust it with the bolt in the center of the clutch basket. if you need to adjust it then you just tip the bike on it's side so you don't need to change the tranny fluid. you still need to drain the coolant though. and uhhhh... do yourself a favor and buy a clymers. later, bill Quote
