It's been awhile since I have been here--no break downs and lots of riding!!! Unfortunately this came to an end on Mother's Day. My son decided to ride his "old" Banshee for grins and giggles (he has been riding dirt bikes lately). Anyhow, he was flying down a trail and hit a whoop and went flying over the handle bars and the Banshee went rolling. Lucky for him all he ended up with is a separated shoulder and some scrapes. Now to my question--how do you tell for the frame is bent? We think ours is--it appears to be tilting to the side and we cannot get the plastic back on, handles bars are pushed back about 1/2 inch. Should we buy a new frame?? Can it be straightened?? Steering stem is not broke. Everything else is good on the bike (still runs); it is just sort of "crooked". Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If it's just the steering head, bend it back and gusset it. They are a weak spot in the Basnhee frame. It's common to bend in a crash.

More serious frame damage will have to be inspected by a good welder to tell you the stesses in the area.

Get it on some flat pavement and it should tell you the whole story. Like was said the upper steering stem pipe that is in front of the gas tank is very easily bent and it's just about as easy to bend back. As long as the tubing or welds aren't cracked, you should be OK bending it back. Another soft spot is where the A arm mounts to the frame. Look closely at the welds and see if the paint has flaked off. The other really soft spot is the frame rails where the grab bar mounts. This is really more of an appearance problem and it will make the whole quad look tweeked. Bang it back down {or up}. As long as the welds are OK, you can still ride it. If the welds are bad and the frame is significantly bent, look for a replacement or get your local welding shop to repair it.

If you had it insured, it's time to cash in. When mine got flipped, the shop I took it to said it is $600 for a frame and 9 hours to exchange the parts at $58 per hour {$522}. plus all new bolts, seals, washers etc. plus new plastic and on and on. I thanked my ins co for the generous payment and I'm still riding it as it was except for the required parts.

Thanks to both of you for your replies. I guess we will load her up and check her out. I do have it insured...hopefully we won't have to go that way. Thank goodness it is a "spare" and we have three others and a dirt bike to ride. We just sold our other Banshee...now I regret it. Oh well. Happy riding...hopefully it won't be blazing this weekend and we can have some fun.
