I just got some boyeson reeds and noticed that the bottom petal is solid all the way across and the upper reed sits on top of the lower reed. Wouldn't it flow better without the center bar?

Anyway has anyone done it?

I bet the two smaller windows give more velocity/attomization than one larger window

I think that's the reason for the two-stage reed to begin with. Only the first stage opens for high-velocity airflow for good throttle response and the big pedals open at higher r's when more airflow is needed. Give it a shot, if it doesn't work out you can pick up a set of stock cages cheap and sell those to someone else who wants to experiment.

That's a good point, but with all the flexing the reeds are designed to do I would think it would be alright, they must be pretty tough.

I have seen a set of cages with the center bars cut out, they were on ebay, they had solid one piece fiber reeds and were advertised as being drag ported.

dude, you just got them and all ready going to cut them up  yeah, the selling point was that the smaller petals would open on the low end and at high end the whole thing would open. seemed better than stock on the bottom, about the same on top. I would try it, stock cages a cheap and I don't think they will break ( about 300 pounds of nos through them ) if that didn't break them nothing will. see ya bud

Could you cut out the + shape of metal in the back of the reed cage (the part facing away from the motor) I know you can port out each of the 4 smaller holes, but why not just make it 1 big hole? Thanks -TracY-
