BrianEb Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 I'm thinking about gettin a billet intake and I was wondering if you later get 34mm carbs can you still run your airbox with the billet manifold and bigger carbs. I heard you could not. You would have to switch to the pod filter system. which is just another expence. Also I don't even think my cheesey boost bottle will fit on the billet intake. Oh well all part of the learning curve. Quote
fixitrod Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 With bigger carbs you'll need some 34mm boots to go to the airbox. Then, You'll have to move the airbox back a little. Quote
locogato11283 Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 which intake? the boss intake?? if so itll move your carbs back pretty far. ditch the air box. just run some clamp on k and n filters...do u ride in a lot of water?? Quote
sandman121383 Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 i had to remove my airbox to accomodate my shearer pipes, BEST THING I EVER DID. Quote
RNBRAD Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 The airbox is just flat a PITA, specially when you need to adjust and tune the carbs. That's the first thing I would do is ditch the airbox unless you ride a lot of water. Quote
Holyman Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 I'm amazed that people think that running an airbox is in any way beneficial... whether you ride thru water, mud, dust, snow whatever, the airbox is a liability that takes up space. Dump it and free yourself!!! Your banshee will love you. Quote
Holyman Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 What's an airbox?? 398386[/snapback] Stack 'em up like firewood 'til you can find a match. Quote

BrianEb Posted July 29, 2005 Author Report Posted July 29, 2005 I do ride in mud sometimes you can't help it in Michigan, The other week we wre riding and it started raining so you kind of had to ride through puddles how deep of water are you guys talking about. How can you avoid water and mud sometimes Unless you just ride it in the dunes. Dunes in Michigan are 3hrs away from where I live. Quote
chapmanmd Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 Run a two into one Toomey with an outerwear. Points up. Unless you bury the thiing in mud or water, you'll be good. Quote
Holyman Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 I'm in Ill and I ride trails too. I run a Toomey 2:1 filter and never had a problem. As long as you run an outerwear and a foam filter, splashes and mud are not going to be a problem. If you think about it a clamp on filter has no real flat spots on it where water or mud can rest so it basically just runs off unless you have an exposed filter. And outerwear is necessary. If you are crossing rivers the airbox still isn't going to keep water out. There is a drain hose in the bottom which is almost always missing which not only allows water in but keeps it in there. It's like have a funnel attached to your carbs. Since an outerwear will not allow water thru unless it is sucked thru, the engine would have to be running and the carb would darn near need to be under water. I have taken the outerwear from my filter and ran it under the faucet. It will hold about 3/4 of an inch of water before running thru. So a splash ain't gonna go into the engine. Take into account the fact that the stock filter arrangement is iffy and you never can be sure it's in there right, plus the choke effect the stock box has on the engine, it just isn't worth running it. I took mine out and installed an ammo box under the seat. Now I have room for the cell phone, tow strap, plugs, wrenches, a few bucks, sandwich and a dry pair of socks in a waterproof container. That by itself is worth tossing the airbox. Plus I got $25 from some stooge that wanted an airbox really bad. I won all the way around. Quote
