I dont have them out yet and cant read the sides of the seals in the banshee now. thanks for any help Quote
spurdy Posted June 1, 2005 Report Posted June 1, 2005 Shift shaft is 25 x 12 x 6 I think....not sure on the clutch shaft but can check when I get home. Quote
Bc34c Posted June 1, 2005 Author Report Posted June 1, 2005 ok someone gave me 10 x 22 x 7 as the shift shaft seal ??? haven't had any for clutch seal yet? Quote
spurdy Posted June 1, 2005 Report Posted June 1, 2005 The outside demision of the shift shaft seal is 22mm not 25mm. The ID is 10mm. The width on mine was 6mm however I could not find a 6mm and had to use a 7mm. It sticks out a little but I have had no issues. I cut a chunk of 1/2 fuel line to use as a spacer between the shifter and the seal to make sure it does not come out. The clutch seal is ID 17mm x OD 28mm x W 6mm. Later Quote
Bc34c Posted June 1, 2005 Author Report Posted June 1, 2005 thanks spurdy, I'll pick up that seal at work today. I still need the one for the clutch but I need to get it torn down so i can take mine in when i get it out. How often do you go through the seal for the shift shaft? i have only replaced that one once so far(had this 87 for about 12 yrs) and haven't had to replace the clutch one yet. I'm getting old so it don't get riddin' like it used too. lol Quote

I wouldn't reuse old seals or bearings. Not considering the cost of seals and bearings vs. the work to disassemble the case. You don't have to tear it down to get the clutch seal out. Just remove the clutch springs and the actuator shaft should slip out. You might have to rotate it back and forth because of the actuator arm at the bottom but this is easy to do with no tension on the push rod. SP Quote
Bc34c Posted June 2, 2005 Author Report Posted June 2, 2005 tx for the info spurdy. I got it half torn apart last night, hopefully get rest of it tonight. Guess while i have it apart I can paint the pipes, change the reeds, rejet carbs, replace fuel lines and filter....damn these 2 seals are take longer then I figured lol oh well kids have soccer so wont be riding next weekend anyways. Or maybe I'll just call in sick and get it all done in one day....hhhhmmmmm Quote
