Jdawg82 Posted May 22, 2005 Report Posted May 22, 2005 I just rebuilt my motor and when I started it for the first time the pipes were hot to the touch after running for 2 minutes idling. I still have to tune my carbs to my mods as I just picked up some ported jugs. I am running 330s with ported jugs, toomey t5s, and the airbox lid removed. I guess my question is would a too rich condition cause my bike to run too hot? The plugs were wet when I pulled them. Quote
race-a-holic Posted May 23, 2005 Report Posted May 23, 2005 I wouldn't worry about it,it's normal for the pipes to be hot.I burn alcohol and my pipes still get warm.Try getting the jetting right and they will still heat up.You probably won't be letting it idle much anyways.Running lean not rich will burn it up. sheefreak Posted May 23, 2005 Report Posted May 23, 2005 If you are still running stock pilots, I would probably bump them up to 30's w/porting and pipes. When you said the plugs were wet, did you rev it up at all, or just let it idle? Quote

Shee-Male Posted January 8, 2006 Report Posted January 8, 2006 A fresh engine will generally run a little hotter than normal because of the added friction. However if it is lean it will run hot, it will run cooler if its rich cause the fuel cools the cylinder. The plug may be a little wet since it was only ideling. Heat cycle it a few times and correct your jetting and it should be fine. Quote
