does anyone know if I put my crankshaft back together with an outer bearing pin that is almost missing, will it cause any damage?? I can't talk to local mechanic till Monday and was planning on putting my engine all back together this weekend for a trip next week. The bike ran fine this way before I took it apart. I had some tranny problems which is why it is apart. Any help please

What does almost missing mean? One of the outer bearings doesn't have a large pin in it like the other three bearings, I believe it is the clutch side bearing, it just has a very small dimple. If that's what you talking about then that is fine, any way you could post a pic?

I tried to attach a pic but it says I don't have enough space to do so. I m not sure how to reduec the size to 756k. anyway the other three bearings have about a 1/8 inch nip, this one on the right side has only about less then 1/16th nip. I thank you for your time and info.

I have to agree that this is the way it's meant to be.

I'm not impressed tho'. ... Having just taken my engine apart, I find that this (clutch side) bearing with the small knock pin, (if you can even call it a knock pin, not even 1/16" like Ray says), has managed to cut itself a groove in the case almost to the bottom.

The other three bearings have decent knock pins and square cutouts in the lower case, but this clutch side bearing only has a small half moon cutout. ... Crap Yamaha design here if you ask me! Why couldn't they just do it the same as the others :shootself: ... I'll take that last statement back if someone can give a good reason for this, but I can't think of one. :shrugani: .

I'm replacing my outer bearings anyway, but I'll be placing the pin in the hole at the bottom on that clutch side on the rebuild. ... I even came accross a pair of new bearings on ebay that had no pin at all on that bearing, just the circlip. banghead

Yep, your crank is fine, go ahead and put it together.

I have to agree though it doesn't make much sense that they wouldn't use the same pin in the clutch side bearing as in the other three, must be some reason, but I can't think of it.

Mine actually has a groove cut in it by the short pin almost to the 6 oclock position. Can't imagine the bearing outer shell being able to spin without seizing the bearing first.
