hittintrees srh Posted May 18, 2005 Report Posted May 18, 2005 Ok heres the problem. I just bought a 01 shee, and its bad ass!!!! So far the only problem ive found is it does'nt want to start when its cold. Or even after i wash it. The thing is that once i get it started(usually with a little starter fluid)it runs like a beast. And once i have it warmed up, it'll start with one kick. What do guys think could be the problem. THANX DUDES!! Quote
JARE77 Posted May 18, 2005 Report Posted May 18, 2005 They dont like water! You have to be very carefull when washing that you keep water away from the carbs, airbox, and intake areas. You should also use a little premix in a spray bottle rather than using starting fluid. Quote
hittintrees srh Posted May 18, 2005 Author Report Posted May 18, 2005 check your compression... 370620 If it was my compression, would it still run so well once its warmed up Also what sort of compression numbers should i expect w/ a cool head and 20cc domes and stock pistons thanx Quote

It can run good when warmed up because the rings will expand when warmed up. Hard starting isn't for sure compression, but it's a good place to start and eliminate, if you know it's not in the jetting. I've got friends who need top ends who'll kick that bitch 10 or 12 times to get it to start sometimes. Drives me nuts. Do you use the choke to cold start or not, what about warm start? Quote
wesw Posted May 18, 2005 Report Posted May 18, 2005 with 20cc domes on had 155 psi at 900 ft elevation with my stock setup might clean your carbs out also you could have a plugged pilot jet Quote
CombatTalon2 Posted May 18, 2005 Report Posted May 18, 2005 with 20cc domes on had 155 psi at 900 ft elevation with my stock setupmight clean your carbs out also you could have a plugged pilot jet 370815 yep, clean your carbs, especially your pilot jets. I was having a hard starting problem, but i gave the carbs a good cleaning and she starts after sitting for two week after probably 3-4 kicks. I also adopted a new way to kick start my shee. Kick it over 2-3 times with the kill switch off, then click it on, and kick it like normal, and see how it goes! Quote
sheefreak Posted May 18, 2005 Report Posted May 18, 2005 When you clean your carbs, make sure you don't mix up the floatbowls. That might be something you check when you clean your carbs. If you just bought the bike from someone else, they may have mixed them up, and only effect it would have on your bike is hard starting. The bowls are numbered on the inside. I believe 1-1, and 1-2. 1-1 goes on the left side(choke lever side). Quote
hittintrees srh Posted May 18, 2005 Author Report Posted May 18, 2005 THANX A LOT GUYZ!!!!!!!!! ILL GIVE EM ALL A SHOT GOD I HOPE ITS NOT AN INTERNAL PROBLEM! Quote
05bansh Posted May 19, 2005 Report Posted May 19, 2005 check your compression... 370620 Give me call dude, I have a compression tester you can use. With my 19cc domes I am at about 155psi. Quote
Wheatchex Posted May 19, 2005 Report Posted May 19, 2005 Trouble starting when cold and starting fine when hot is usually a compression issue. You need a top end rebuild at the minimum or a bore/hone & new pistons/rings at the high end of the $ spectrum. A compression test will verify this imediately. Anything less than 100 psi needs to be looked at or if your cyclinders vary by more than a 5-10% pressure difference. Wheatchex Quote
fixitrod Posted May 19, 2005 Report Posted May 19, 2005 Before tearing it apart try new gas... if the gas is old. Had the same issue when I bought my shee. It sat for a long time. Would start with some help when cold but was fine when warm. Put new gas in it and it was fine. Quote
MILO Posted May 25, 2005 Report Posted May 25, 2005 i'd suggest the float bowls being mixed up, or the crossover tube between the carbs not being on, before diving into a rebuild, or more complicated issues. start with the simple things. Quote
