Hey guys, building a new shop, wondered if anyone has used or any experience with tankless water heaters (electric)? Any input would be great before I make my final decision. It's seems this will be the wave of the future and now they are reasonably priced, save room and are really efficient. If anyone has any pos. neg issues with them please share. Thanks giuys!!

I got one. My shower spits out hot water in about 3 seconds flat and never runs out. Hot as hell, too. Never have to worry about sediment in a tank, elements, or a flooded garage. I was told you will get your money back in electricity savings in a year or so. Mine has a 5 year warranty, too.

The tankless water heaters aren't bad. They're not a replacement for std water heaters in regards to showering and such, but if all you need is some hot water out of a faucet some, then it should be fine.

In our construction business, the only time we really use one is when the hot water has to travel a long distance and has the possibility of losing heat by the time it gets there. For example, if we have a water heater across the house and have to go through the attic across a large room to get to say... the kitchen sink, then we'll put one under the kitchen sink to service that sink.

It should work great in a shop type application, as long as your not taking 45 minute showers or need perfectly boiling water, tho the ones we've used have been pretty darned hot. Another good thing is, it's not continuously running and heating all the time like a std tank would be, so that's a plus.

Hey guys, really appreciate the input. I talked with my electrician today and he said the unit I wanted would require some hefty wiring. So I decided I didn't want to spend the extra 1500 for another breaker box and wiring. Seemed like a good idea but I wanted a commercial unit that would flow as well as a tank. Man electrician are high. Oh well, thanks anyway guys.

I am curious why you would need an extra electricla box? I am also an electrician, and can say that you would only need a new brkr box if you are using the old screw in fuses or just out of room in your current brkr box. I could also possibly understand the issue of trying to use a commercial unit in a shop, because most of thee ones that I have hooked up are either 208v 3 phase @ 50 amps, or 480v 3 phase @ 30 amps

It was a 240v/208v with three 40 amp circuits. I'm no electrician but he said my existing box and line wouldn't support the extra power required. So he told me it would require a seperate box and a seperate wire to the pole. :shrugani: He said my existing electrical box supports 200 amps but I'm already using most of that.

brad you should spend that money on a kegerator

Well I didn't get a kegerator but I did get a hook up for a full size fridge and water line, gotta have ice ya know.
