darkstar310 Posted March 23, 2005 Author Report Posted March 23, 2005 ya is glamis that good i hear alot of stories on that place Quote
Wallrat Posted March 23, 2005 Report Posted March 23, 2005 Its very good from Sept-Apr or so. After that Glamis and just about every decent riding spot in Cali gets too hot. Pretty much Pismo and Big Bear are your only 2 options, and both are pretty gay. Personally I like the dunes at Dumont better but there's a bigger riding area at Glamis. You can explore every inch of Dumont in a day whereas I'm still riding new territory in Glamis. Oh and don't pay attention to the stories. The public tends to only focus on several small incidents that occur there. Do rangers get stabbed? Once one did, several years ago. Is it just a non-stop party? Depends on where you camp. Usually when I go its with friends and their families so I'm asleep by 11pm. You can check out some vids of the party aspect of Glamis at www.glamisinfo.com Quote
2stroker Posted March 23, 2005 Report Posted March 23, 2005 If you're lookin for sand, the it's already been covered. If you're looking for trails/desert riding there's a few I know of in the So Cal area. About 45 minutes north of LA is a place called Texas Canyon in the Santa Clarita area. Lots of trails with a couple of steep knarly hills. Take I5 north from LA to HWY 14 (a few miles before Magic Mtn) exit Sierra HWY.... If you continue on I5 past Magic Mtn, there's Hungry Valley/Gorman. It's a large area with tons of trails. Exit @ Hungry Valley Rd. or the next offramp at Gorman.... If you're looking for excellent desert riding (not dunes) there is a lot of riding outside the town of California City. Take HWY 14 north to Palmdale and continue to Mohave. Follow the signs to Cal City. Lots of good riding in Jawbone Canyon and Redrock Canyon. Haven't been to any of those places in over ten years since moving to Arizona so I dont know how it is now. The Hungry Valley area started charging people a couple bucks to use the place from I what remember. Dont know if they did away with that. Probably not. It does have toilets and picnic tables if you're looking for such things. Good 4x4 trails too. Quote

DUNEDEMON Posted March 23, 2005 Report Posted March 23, 2005 While the sand aspect has been covered well, I'd still like to emphasize GLAMIS as a must visit place for any self respecting Banshee owner. El Mirage dry lake just west of Barstow of the 395 is also a great place to ride. Huge wide open dry lake bed, lost of graded roads and trails that wind around for miles. There is also a great access road along the Calif. aqueduct that lead form Silverwood lake all the way up to Barstow and then into Victorville with tons of little trails in between. Quote
