dawgfan Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 This is my second post on this because I only got one reply before. Come on guys, need some advise. There is oil (looks like gear lube) leaking out of my exhaust ports (both sides) on the motor. one guy said it's probably a bad crank seal. Anyone agree or disagree? If it is, how bad would it be to keep riding like that for a while? I was planning to tear her down and freshen her up sometime in the next few months, but not right away. Should I stop riding now? What are some possible effects of riding it like this? Should I be fairly safe if I keep a good check on the gear lube level? Quote
Tim C Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 Put some new o-rings in your pipes if its leaking where the exhaust attacheches to the cylinders. If that don't completely seal it, try some Ultra Copper silicone also Quote
banshdog Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 Keep an eye on your gear lube just to be safe. My guess would be that it is just unburned mixture. If the O-rings are bad on your pipes, it will blow oil all over the place. what does everyone else think? Quote
SICK BOY Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 I'd clean the pipes up,and put new o-rings in them.I don't see how it would be gear oil coming from the exhaust,or do I understand what it would have to do with crank seals. Quote
y2kbanshee9187 Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 Mine does the same. Makes a mess of the cylinders and pipes right there. Quote

Clean the pipes up, and put new o-rings in them. Crank seals have nothing to do with the gear box. Keep an eye on your gear oil just to be safe. Quote
JARE77 Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 If it was your crank it would only be leaking on the right hand side and you would see exesive white smoke out of that silencer. Correct me if im wrong. Quote

Correct me if im wrong. 337619[/snapback] I agree, a crank seal would only effect the right side if your sucking oil, left side you would run lean. I have double o-rings on my exhaust flanges Quote
