03350banshee Posted March 6, 2005 Report Posted March 6, 2005 i had a pullin truck last year '89 dodge power wagon. she went about 242 feet and the drive shaft blew out. Last year was just for fun but this year i am going to get into it more. I am going to do it with a CJ-5 jeep. so far got 37 inch tires one it heavy duty springs in te back. welded spider gears. has a 402 in it. Just have to figer out how to keep the front end down. she will pull wheelies out on the road. I will take some pics. this comeing weekend. Defenitly get the rule book to see what you can and cant do. I put headers on the dodge. got the rule book and said no headers. let me know how it goes. if you need some tips i will gladly help you out. Quote
itsaripper Posted March 6, 2005 Report Posted March 6, 2005 Get the rule book for your area. Are you going to run stock or modified or super modified. How many modification you do will determan your class. If you run stock around here you can only have one modification to the body. Like putting something between the rear axle and the frame to make it ridged. The tires have to be a size that came on that truck from the factory. The width can't be to radical. But you don't want the wheels to hook up right away. You need to get moving with lots of wheel spin, then hook and pull like mad. Most don't use a auto, too much slip. They use four speeds and start in second. These are just what I know from around here. Your area may be totaly differant. What ever you do it will be lot of fun. There is a pull up in Amity Oregon at the end of summer. They were pulling a small sled with fourwheelers. There were several banshees pulling, but I missed that part of the pull. Quote
'99350t Posted March 6, 2005 Author Report Posted March 6, 2005 well iam definatly going to use some heavey tread tires and probably welds the axles (front and rear) i dont know where i would go to get a rule book....? i figured you'd want auto over standard? i got a truck with a 4spd granny low but seems like the throw is too long and you will stop before you grab thrid gear. any tips would be appreciated too. Stroker81 Posted March 7, 2005 Report Posted March 7, 2005 What kind of truck are you pulling? Around here diesel truck pulls are going strong. I would buy you a dodge ram with a cummins diesel. They are the best pullers in the diesel classes. Quote
03350banshee Posted March 7, 2005 Report Posted March 7, 2005 four speed with a crepper gear is good. thats what my jeep has. start off whine 1st speed shift into second and hold her to the floor. Well that is what i do. not sure what your gearing is like. unless you got a heavy duty clutch i wouldnt risk trying to put it into 3. But you wont know until that time comes when you are going down the track. i have a old international dump truck that is junk i practice pulling that i leave it right in park. and practice taking off. You get the rule book from what ever fair you are going to enter into. what kind of truck are you using. The old dodge power wagons are good. or the chevy scottsdales. well keep us updated. feel free to ask questions. Quote

03350banshee Posted March 7, 2005 Report Posted March 7, 2005 go with the f250. If your looking for some tires i can check this weekend. might have some ford rims with 35inch swampers on them. i run ford rims on my jeep. You should be able to get a good tranny at a junk yard. I got 2 f150 lying around one runs good just needs exhust manifold that has 31 inch tires on it. i will check the tread out on those to. Quote
