Skyy Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 I was trying to take my swingarm bolt out but had to hammer it like hell cause it was bent. Then went to order a new one, and OMFG what a rip off! They wanted to charge me 60$ canadian (50$american) WTF! So I told him to shuv it up .... Anyways was wondering if anyone knows what grade that bolt is? cause I ordered a grade 8.8 for 12 bucks today. Quote
Holyman Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 The problem with using a regular bolt is that it will have too mant threads. The stock bolt only hase enough threads for the nut so that the unthreaded part will come thru the frame. If you use a regular bolt, the threads will be supporting the swingarm in the hole in the frame and the threads will most likely crush down or egg out the hole in the frame. A grade 8 bolt should work just fine. Quote
Skyy Posted February 28, 2005 Author Report Posted February 28, 2005 I did think of that. Thats why I ordered my bolt longuer so that I have enough of the bolt with no thread to grab both bearings and then all I have to do is cut the excess of threads off. Quote

Skyy Posted February 28, 2005 Author Report Posted February 28, 2005 It will fit, thats not the problem. If I dont have enough thread ill put it on the laid and make more thread. Just whant to make shure grade 8.8 it strong enough. I personnaly think so cause original bolt has a trough hole in it wich would make it weaker. Quote

Skyy Posted March 1, 2005 Author Report Posted March 1, 2005 Hole through it makes it stronger. ????And how does that work???? Quote
racer Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 in a solid bar, the inner 1/3 of the material doesnt actually increase its strength any. or that what a mech. engineer told me one time. dunno if its true though. but that hole does make it lighter, and provides a great place for grease flow. scotts96fast Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 Check out rivaracing.com I always use their parts finder to find out the cost of factory parts. The $ are with in cents of the local dealer. You can order parts from this site... I bought that bolt and it was not even close to $50. Quote
RNBRAD Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 Check with alloyboltz.com and get their solid stainless steel swingarm bolt. Will never rust and stronger than the stock unit for around 50 dollars. I also have a nice stock bolt for 20 dollars if anyone is interested. Quote
