Banshee~ Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 Get a good anti-virus software and you must update it contantly or its not worth anyting.I have my firewall on windows enabled if that helps at all ....and ad-aware and spybot-those take care of spyware which can cause shit to mess up to. bigboybanshee Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 Sounds like even if you kill whatever it is that did this to your PC you'll still have issues....unfortunately, if the virus deleted settings/files there isn't a way to get them back without either restoring your machine or re-installing windows. To help prevent nasty bugars like that I use Microsoft's spyware killer that you can download for free off their website, along with McAfee anti-virus software. Norton never worked that well for me... Quote
Bansheeman1121 Posted February 28, 2005 Author Report Posted February 28, 2005 Thanx a ton for all the help i have norton anti virus and i think windows milenium or somthing. I want a good anti virus but the dam things are like 70 bucks, did u guys pay for the ones u got? Quote
Wallrat Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 Go to www.trendmicro.com There's a free online virus scanner on there. I've found that it works pretty good at detecting the virus but isn't all that great at cleaning them out. If that's the case, there's also a virus encyclopedia on that same website. Simply search for the virus name that it found and it will tell you what the virus does and how to get rid of it in a step by step process. Just make sure you follow the directions EXACTLY or you'll be hating life. Quote
jonnyrebel2004 Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/ This is a free version of an anti-virus program. It is what i have on my computer and it hasn't failed me yet. I havn't tried to many anti-viruse programs but of the ones I have tried this is the best. Hope this helps ya out. Travis Quote
XxMeltIcexX Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 Is this whats happening? If so, theres a solution: Just giving a suggestion...Hey, believe me, it works... Eric Quote
Justintoxicated Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 I also Like McAffey, hardly anyone gets viruses anymore, most peopel actualy get worms rather....Some worms have viruses built into them. the BEST way to prevent your computer form getting worms is to update windows everytime yousee the icon. Typicaly these fixes patch areas in the OS that are susceptable to worms. it's funny cause I think I'm the only person at work who cares if their computer is updated. And I work for a computer company. You can tell people to update but for some reason they never listen... The only other real way to get a virus is to open an unsafe file. Quote
