Iam thinking about getting an rz350 motor and putting it in a roller. My major concerns, if the engine had a high output stator would i need a battery to run the power valves or not?, also i have read about them and remember not all exhaust fit and you need to customize the mounts, does anyone sell these, and any tips or suggestions would be appreacited,

Thanks

Yes you'll either need a battery or a batter eliminator (find them on ebay) along with the RZ stator and electronics to run the powervalves. If you're talking about using a high-output Banshee stator, it would probably work but you're gonna need to do some alterations to the rest of the system...the easier way would be to stick to the complete RZ system. The powervalves cycle open and closed when the ignition is first turned "on" if you have a battery, I don't think it's really a big issue if you decide to use the battery eliminator instead, the battery itself isn't a neccessity but getting power to the PV controller is...

As for the exhaust, no Banshee pipes are gonna fit without an adapter. RZ jugs just have a flat mating surface with two studs; their pipes had a 2-bolt flange that was secured to the cylinder with 2 nuts. You should be able to get a muffler shop to fab up a pair of adapters, essentially just the 2-bolt flange with a short spigot that matches the pipe ID, you might also want them to weld a washer on there to hook the pipe springs to (I haven't gotten that far on mine yet heh). You might also check with RZ's Unlimited, thought they had them for sale...

Regarding your question about pipe selection. The only pipes that I hear of and that people with RZ powered banshees are using are either Rockets or Paul Turners.

To make the flanges isn't really hard. I took a 1 5/8 inch hole saw, and drilled through a 1/4 plate of steel. You will have to run at low speed and I would recommend some form of oil to help in the cutting process. Also I had to take a dremel and open up the hole in the plate a bit more so the tubin would fit.

As far as tubing goes I got it from a Muffler shop. I took my FMF pipe with me and the tubin fit perfect. I have a sample piece at home and I will varify the pipe OD tonight if you would like

I began this RZ project a few months ago. Search under my name in the search function and you will see alot of posts I began on myRZ project

thanks for all the tips, i got a couple more questions, i have heard that the banshee trannys are better that the rz, would it be worth it to just get a rz top end and put it on a banshee bottom end, or just get a complete rz motor. Also, besides ebay does anyone know where i can get a rz motor?

Most people recommend to put the RZ cylinders on the Banshee cases just because the internal gearing on the RZ is kind of high. With that said it is my understanding that the RZ's shift drum is made in a way in which the RZ shifts much better. So what people do is to take the drum off a RZ motor and put in there banshee motor with RZ jugs.

As far as finding a RZ motor other than on E-bay, you will just have to ask around and see what pops up. I found mine from talking to a buddy who had a buddy who did not want his RZ motorcylce anymore.

I know as of yesterday there were a few sets of RZ cylinders on E-bay if yo already have a banshee base you may want to consider that option.

For me I am keeping it all RZ, and will experiment with external sprockets.
