y2kbanshee9187 Posted February 20, 2005 Report Posted February 20, 2005 I ordered new piston rings for the shee, they should be here on Tueseday. Am I going to have to hone out the cylinders before I put the new ones in? You can still see the cross hatch in the cylinders a little bit. Also I read somewhere that you tighten the bolts on the head to 20lbs... Is that right? Thanks Ben Quote
RBD Posted February 20, 2005 Report Posted February 20, 2005 Yes, it is always a good idea to hone your cylinders when installing rings. And 20 ft lbs on the head torque in fine. Do it stages, snug, 10 ft lbs, 15 ft lbs 20 ft lbs and then re-do the 20 ft lbs again. Follow the number pattern on the head. Quote
Weirdman Posted February 20, 2005 Report Posted February 20, 2005 Follow the number pattern on the head. 326693 ? What do you mean by this? Quote
i12gofast Posted February 20, 2005 Report Posted February 20, 2005 ? What do you mean by this? 326760 Thats the order in which you tighten the head bolts, from the inside out in a criss-cross pattern. The #'s are stamped into the stock heads, tightn them, then torque them in the order stamped, starting at 1.... Quote
NugShee Posted February 20, 2005 Report Posted February 20, 2005 dont tighten them any more then 20ftlbs. You will be suprised at how little they need tightenned. Basically if you were to have your wife or girlfriend tighten them with a small wrench then that would be about right. Good luck. Quote
