01bansheefox Posted February 18, 2005 Author Report Posted February 18, 2005 Ya i already saw his pictures but i figured PC would be the same everywhere else, anyone know then whats the difference? His more shinny? His actually looks like chrome to me and love it. I just didnt wanna go through all the hassle of shipping everything if i can just drive down the road. Quote
stclark816 Posted February 18, 2005 Report Posted February 18, 2005 Shoot him a PM. His way goes through a different process. I think it's alot more time consuming or something. Quote
sredish Posted February 18, 2005 Report Posted February 18, 2005 Powdercoaters can get a color that's called Powder Chrome, but it's not the same as what Dunedemon does. The color Powder Chrome is shiny and is somewhat reflective, but does not really look like chrome, more like a very very shiny silver. Dunedemon's "Powder chrome" isn't like powder coating at all, it's a totally different process, but when it's finished, it looks JUST LIKE chrome, in fact, it seems you would have a hard time distinguising between the two. He just nicknamed the process, Powder chrome. Catchy isn't it? Here's a quote from his thread: Introducing "Powder-Chrome" a new type of powder coating process that I have become a dealer for. As shiny as chrome without the hydrogen embrittlement that is a nasty byproduct of the chrome process, plus the top coat is a Dupont eurethane powder clear (same composition BMW uses for clear-coating their cars) that can be wet sanded if it becomes dull. A friend of mine bought the equipment from Pioneer - the same equipment is used to put the "shiny finish" on CD's DVD's etc...It is a 2 setp coating process where aluminum is vaporized, then then sent to a vaccum chamber with the part, in the chamber the vaporized aluminum is drawn to the part, then it is baked (just like powder coating) upon completion of this step it is clear powder coated (color tinted cclears will be availible soon). Here's his "Powder Chromed" swinger: Here's his "Powder Chrome" thread" POWDER CHROME Amazing what a search will do. Quote
DUNEDEMON Posted February 22, 2005 Report Posted February 22, 2005 Sredish has you in the right direction. Not fully operational yet, I'll let you guys know... Quote
cudaz101 Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 Sounds like HMC "Home Made Chrome"....The Vacum Sputtering system...It is popular for wheel makers/platers. Nothing wants to stick to the stuff in the way of brake dust and such. I dunno about longevity though...??? Probably a lil differant process, but it sounds very similar. Brad Quote
