FadedDreams Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 My dads birthday is coming up soon and hes been wanting a GPS ever since he got his boat.I'm wanting to buy him one,but theres alot to choose from.Theres a few that are made for marine use only, and then you have the ones that do a little bit of everything. He fishes out in the ocean and the bays so this would make things easier for him. What i was wondering, would it be better to get a marine only GPS or one that does it all.Let me know your opinions. Thanks,Steve Quote
Wallrat Posted February 17, 2005 Report Posted February 17, 2005 Does he have any other electronics on board? Cuz some GPS's will tie into your radar/chartplotter/depth sounder and will give you an all-in-one. The portables are handy if you need to use it for different things. If the only thing he's gonna use it for is the boat, then you're better off getting a solid mount unit. Quote
FadedDreams Posted February 17, 2005 Author Report Posted February 17, 2005 I figure the only he has on the boat is compass. The reason i was thinking a portable one is because the boat stays in Va and we're in Pa,so it could get stolen when we're not there. Quote
Wallrat Posted February 18, 2005 Report Posted February 18, 2005 You can make hard mount ones removeable. Quote
