Guys how would I go about running a vin# to make sure its a clean bike and not stolen? My older neighbor has a bare frame and is not quite sure where it came from but its mine if I just take it. Before I even get involved I want to make sure its not stolen. If it comes back stolen how would I go about contacting the original owner to make things right and obtain a pink slip to it? In California we have to register off road bikes. Thanks guys.

Dunno man, if you run it & get the original owners contact info; give them a call & see what's up with it. If you can't locate the original ownder, couldn't you weld over & grind that shit down and get it re-registered as a custom built bike? :shrugani:

haha, leds a thief.

personally id cut that section of tubing out and weld in a whole new piece at an existing seam. much more clean and less criminal-like that way.

I would just call the police and say that you were going to buy an ATV but would like to know if the seller is legit. I made the mistake of "turning in" a quad I found. The cops imounded it and the lot charged $35 a day for a month before they could get title for it. I should have just called in the numbers.
