CarlosD Posted February 9, 2005 Report Posted February 9, 2005 Guys how would I go about running a vin# to make sure its a clean bike and not stolen? My older neighbor has a bare frame and is not quite sure where it came from but its mine if I just take it. Before I even get involved I want to make sure its not stolen. If it comes back stolen how would I go about contacting the original owner to make things right and obtain a pink slip to it? In California we have to register off road bikes. Thanks guys. Quote
ledofthezep Posted February 9, 2005 Report Posted February 9, 2005 Dunno man, if you run it & get the original owners contact info; give them a call & see what's up with it. If you can't locate the original ownder, couldn't you weld over & grind that shit down and get it re-registered as a custom built bike? Quote

SICK BOY Posted February 9, 2005 Report Posted February 9, 2005 walk it into your local police station. 320441[/snapback] That's the best way right there. Quote
racer Posted February 10, 2005 Report Posted February 10, 2005 haha, leds a thief. personally id cut that section of tubing out and weld in a whole new piece at an existing seam. much more clean and less criminal-like that way. Quote
SICK BOY Posted February 11, 2005 Report Posted February 11, 2005 (edited) Or you could just write new numbers with a marker over top the ones that are there. Edited February 11, 2005 by SICK BOY Quote
Holyman Posted February 11, 2005 Report Posted February 11, 2005 I would just call the police and say that you were going to buy an ATV but would like to know if the seller is legit. I made the mistake of "turning in" a quad I found. The cops imounded it and the lot charged $35 a day for a month before they could get title for it. I should have just called in the numbers. Quote
