Doodle Posted February 5, 2005 Report Posted February 5, 2005 I'm trying to dial in my jetting on my new SST's. I'm at 3100' with stock pilots, 280 mains, no lid, K&N, and clip on the 3rd notch. I think I need to move up a size or two with the mains to like a 290/300, but my question pertains to the pilot jet. Most people say you need to move up to a 27.5 or a 30. Mine will idle fine with the stock pilot, it's just a bitch to get started. I may have to kick like 30 times to get her to fire whereas before it would ususally start in one or two kicks. Should I move up a size with the pilots? Or does this situation not matter. Also, when I was pricking with my needles I happened to drop on on the ground and boogered it up. I just put it back in the way it was. I've ran it with it like that, but I was wondering if this could hurt performance at all. Any info appreciated. Quote
blk02banshee Posted February 5, 2005 Report Posted February 5, 2005 have you tried adjusting the air/fuel mixture screws? You want it to start easy, and also pull away smooth and clean from a dead stop. Turning them in(clockwise) richens the mixture. I would turn them all the way in until seated, then back them out 1 1/2 turns. Then try it and adjust from there. If you have to have them less than 1 full turn out from seated, for it to run right, then you could possibly benefit from a bigger pilot. Quote
Banchetta Posted February 7, 2005 Report Posted February 7, 2005 Every shee is different, but only ONE way to tell. Get a set of 27.5 pilots and try them out..also make sure you didnt' swap your carb bowls when you had it apart. Only one carb bowl will supply the fuel to the choke. Quote
richybanshee Posted February 7, 2005 Report Posted February 7, 2005 (edited) Before bying anything, try turning the air screws all the way in. See if this minimizes the problem. If so go bigger on the pilot jets. FMF recomends 30 pilots with their pipes. If you live in a place where temperatures are mostly cold, you should go up on the mains. In hotter places the difference is not as bad. Edited February 8, 2005 by richybanshee Quote
