OKOK..SO...how did you guys get that sprocket nut off?  That MOFO is TIGHT.  I guess it is impact wrench time.....it keeps spinning the tires while I try to bust it loose.  I got the shee up against a wall so it won't roll....and it just rotates the tires...dammit.

 

suggestions?

1. Hold the rear brakes while you break it loose. (cheapest)

2. Impact (easiest)

3. Shove a punch through your rear sprocket and through your brake disc it will lock against the swinger make sure you don

Mine wasn't that tight.  Did you bend back the locking washer that is bent over the nut?  Mine was like that, dont know if yours is.

Definately make sure you bend the washer off of the nut when removing or it will be very difficult! Mine wasnt very tight at all. After I bent the washer, I used a socket w/ a breaker bar, it came off very easy.

My advice is slap a 15 tooth on the front and give it a try, you might be surprised at how much you like it.

yea, but a 15 front is going to push me back into a high end/top speed gearing. I need a little more botom end for these trails and tight spots. But this 13 tooth seems a bit extreme...though I have not yet run it too much. When I did test it out a little I was shifting as soon as it hit the power band. Each gear topped out really fast...and that was without tire spin. So maybe a 14-42 ?

I Think it is 1 tooth in front is equal to 3 teeth in the rear...so I could get more flexability changing the rear sprocket.

I understand your reservations but I ride tight trails all the time and when I finish my engine I'll be running my 16/40 again. You need to decide what gears do you normally ride in when you ride your trails? My guess is you're always higher than first especially with 13/41? If you up that front tooth count you can make a rideable first gear. For me my shee came 12/41 and I was running 4th-5th in my short straight aways and I'd downshift to high revs second for the tight stuff. With 15/40 sometimes I may shift down to first but for the most part I run in second and third on the same trails and do a lot less shifting and run much faster overall times. Take a shee out in the open geared 16/40 and actually hit sixth all your riding buds will have run out of gear at 4th. It's worth a try for the $12 for a front sprocket.

rode the 13-41 gears out in the trails today. Frikken smooth and powerful. The excessive shifting was annoying sometimes...but as short as some of these spots are...it was nice. In a 10ft strip you could haul ass in one gear and get into the turn or whatever....didn't take much time to accel at all. Ran 3rd-4th gear most of time.
