bmbiff Posted January 18, 2005 Report Posted January 18, 2005 hi new to the site, i am from midland,MI got some buddies and i that like to race on the ice on a buddies pond, we have an oval track plowed off and we like to race each other or just take practice laps learing the curves. recently got my shee setup for this with studded chin sheng's etc, rejetted for the cold temperatures and have rode it twice with a couple overheating issues. -it overheated, coolant coming out of overflow and can hear it spitting and sputtering, after the first ride after i rode around for about an hour on the ice, parked it let it cool down then rode it again for about half an hour and it was fine. -went back out and rode it at night. let it warm up and did about 10 laps then it was overheating again. let it cool down then fired it up and raced a buddy , after a couple laps it would overheat. have checked old posts but not sure where to start looking. i think or at least thought i have the proper jetting, stock carbs, was running 220's fine in the summer and bumped up to 240's in the winter, also checked the impellar and it was spitting coolant fine. drained radiator and refilled with new coolant. haven't had it back out since yet but needed some feedback. oh also i am running klotz about 50:1 or so, whatever a 16oz. bottle is to 5gallons of gas. oh shee has also had a history of overheating in the summer but only after it has been severely rode the hell out of. like -sand dragging after an 1and half trail ride in 90degree weather -dragging up and down a field constantly for about a half an hr. -suprisingly only about once during a whole weekend of hard dune riding at silver lake in the summer thanks, any help would be appreciated! banshee tuner Posted January 18, 2005 Report Posted January 18, 2005 Eighther your impellar is not turning or the radiator is clogged up. I only overheat when staying in low gears in extremely hot weather, and since I run engine ice I don't have that problem no more. Quote
bmbiff Posted January 18, 2005 Author Report Posted January 18, 2005 well i might have to try and flush the radiator and get some of that engine ice i have been hearing about. i took of the cover and watched the impellar turn with the machine running so i believe that is alright. guess i'll have to work on that radiator. we do usually stay in lower gears while racing about 3 and 4th, but always have the rpm's running really high. sredish Posted January 18, 2005 Report Posted January 18, 2005 take the lower hose off your radiator. stuff should dump out, either way, make sure it's empty. Then, with the hose off, pour water in the radiator, and just keep pouring. Water should end up pouring out the bottom. If it doesn't, that means it's clogged and there's your problem. Scott Quote
banshee tuner Posted January 18, 2005 Report Posted January 18, 2005 You should have problems getting that thing to warm up ice racing. Quote
bmbiff Posted January 19, 2005 Author Report Posted January 19, 2005 haven't had any problems with it running in the cold weather. can start it up and it will almost idle on its own, or you have to keep reving it but after only about a minute or two of that than it will idle fine on its own. Quote
H250RHATER Posted January 19, 2005 Report Posted January 19, 2005 if u can aford it buy a oversized radiator Quote
Banchetta Posted January 19, 2005 Report Posted January 19, 2005 Your running stock size jets and its overheating??? What are all your mods including the air filter and box...temp outside? elevation...Your jetting seems lean for winter even for a bone stock shee....fell your radiator when it overheats. If its really got, then its circulating and your running too lean..what do your plugs look like after a wot test run in 6th gear?? Quote
