But what is the standard practice of putting these back together, from a new crankshaft up... i have a manual to go by but just looking for some pointers, assembly lube etc. thanks again .....Brian Quote
nater006 Posted January 2, 2005 Report Posted January 2, 2005 2-cycle oil, Yamabond #4, seals, and white lithium grease. I've only done it a couple of times now but... Lube the crank bearings, needle bearings, etc up with whatever oil you use for premix. Clean the case halves as best as possible, and use a thin coat of Yamabond #4 on the mating surface on both case halves -- a tube of it costs like $5 at the Stealership and is more than enough to do this multiple times. Spend a few bucks and get new seals -- coat the wear parts on them with white lithium grease before reassembling. It'll help them seat as best as possible. There's probably some other tips/tricks that others who've done this many times can offer.. the above has worked well for me the couple times thus far though Quote
NugShee Posted January 2, 2005 Report Posted January 2, 2005 make sure you torque everything to spec. there are some nuts on there that cant be tightenned to tight or they will pull the studs right out of the case when the motor gets warm. the head bolts are one of them, they only need 20flbs of torque. also if they arent all tightenned the same amount then you are just asking for trouble. The head will worp and you will have coolent leaking into the piston and out the exhaust. so do it right the first time and there shouldnt be any problems. Good luck. Quote
