stogy3 Posted December 21, 2004 Report Posted December 21, 2004 I don't want to spend a shit load of $$ on tire studs and I have read that you guys are using sheet metal screws. Which ones do I buy? Self tapping? I do not want to cause a leak so how do I know what length? Just into the knobby correct? Is there a pattern I should follow(front and rear)? How much psi do I run in the studded tires? Sorry about all the ???'s Thanks for the help and have safe and happy holidays!! Quote
Banshee17Racing Posted December 21, 2004 Report Posted December 21, 2004 I've used 8 x 1/2" before and I just got done putting 1100 10 x 1/2" in the rear this year. I don't really have a set pattern when putting them in the tire. Do not get the self tapping, I'm pretty sure they would make bigger holes...which would cause them to fall out a lot easier. I usually run around 3 psi in the tires. Quote
stogy3 Posted December 21, 2004 Author Report Posted December 21, 2004 so if you do not use self tapping how do you start them? Quote
locogato11283 Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 sheet metal screws will screw right into rubber. 10 x 1/2" is what i use. do a search for studded tires and youll find alot of good info. DO NOT use self teppers. Quote
stogy3 Posted December 22, 2004 Author Report Posted December 22, 2004 ya know I use the self tappers all the time and know I understand why not to use them. I am dumb sometimes. Because of the tip that cuts through the metal would do nothing for holding them into the tire. Man I need to ride and clear my head. Thanks guys Quote
FlatTrackinIt55 Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 where are you planning to run these? just out riding or are you going to be doing some racing?? just curious -Blake Quote
