04ShEeLE Posted December 9, 2004 Report Posted December 9, 2004 Is it worth putting a couple bucks into my stock head? Will upping the compression make a noticeable difference on an otherwise stock engine? Quote
RNBRAD Posted December 9, 2004 Report Posted December 9, 2004 Is it worth putting a couple bucks into my stock head? Will upping the compression make a noticeable difference on an otherwise stock engine? 290952[/snapback] Absolutely, probably the cheapest mod with the most benefit. Quote
BdBanshee Posted December 10, 2004 Report Posted December 10, 2004 Definetely! Have .030" milled off of it, power will come on sooner and you will gain 2.5 HP Quote
DIRTBIKEZ Posted December 10, 2004 Report Posted December 10, 2004 (edited) Great bang for the buck. Lowend torque is increased enough that even the most oblivous rider will notice. Edited December 10, 2004 by DIRTBIKEZ Quote
WickedBanshee Posted December 11, 2004 Report Posted December 11, 2004 you can just get your stock head reworked and dont even need a coolhead. my builder uses stock head on all his stroker bikes. Quote
FIRST BANSHEE Posted December 11, 2004 Report Posted December 11, 2004 Great mod, I had my local machine shop do mine for $25. you want to check your squish band and make sure someone hasn't already cut it. ideal squish is .040, less than that and you'll hurt performance. Quote
decon Posted December 11, 2004 Report Posted December 11, 2004 I know head milling is cheaper than buying an aftermarket head, but do they preform the same? Also, are aftermarket heads just good for being able to switch your domes up for different compression? Quote

The cool head just adds volume to your cooling system. If your heating the coolant faster than your cooling it off it will just slightly take longer to overheat. The same kind of applies to the bigger radiators. You probably won't have a cooling issue if you shave your head if you don't overheat you bike very often now. Quote
