421stroker
Hey everyone, I went to ride the banshee after 1.5 years of working on it. Well I've had it running before but never drove it. So I put it in gear with it runnig and the clutch in. Then I let out on the clutch and it learches foward hard and dies. Now the kickstarter is locked up along with I cant get the shifter to shift gears even though the shifer does move. Also the rear wheels are locked up obviously. Anyone remember that post a long time ago about someone machining every other one of the dogs out of the tranny gears. Well I did that and was wondering if that could be it. Also I have a shift star modifed by bdbanshee and rz shift forks. I hope someone can tell me what to do besides tear the whole engine out and split the cases because that would be fun. 421stroker
Thanks. When I had it running without the swingarm on there the sprocket turned. Do you think that that is a sign that the tranny is together right? Anywy I guess I'll pull that cover off.
421stroker
I tore the clutch assembly off and now I know that the crank spins freely and the shaft that the clutch rides on doesn't spin. I cant shift the gears with the shift lever but the shift star does move around just a little. Anyone got any more ideas.

boonman
You likely aren't going to be able to move the shift drum with your hand. I a m thinking that you don't have the shifter adjusted properly. This procedure is outlined in the clymer repair manual. If you don't have one, you need one. Your kickstart isn't moving because the bike is in gear, and you can't kick the engine and the bike over.... It may have lurched forward due to a dry clutch.... How long was the tranny together before you rode the bike.... I know that after my bike sits for a bit, the first time you take off, the clutch is real grabby..... 421stroker
Well I split the cases today. It WAS fun just like I predicted earlier. Anyway there are small notches out of four of the gears. It is the two that mesh on the far right and far left sides. This caused the gears to not mesh proberly and want to lift up causing it to be locked up obviously. Anybody have any clue why it could of done this. I couldn't find anything in the gearbox that would have done this. I't a 2001 that got rode for less than a year also.
