Anyone know about compound bows

hey , my father getting a pse compound bow for me on christmas and i dont really know much about em . i believe we looked at a pse nova . i think it had a 40 lb draw weight on it . is that enough to kill a hog or a bobcat ? or will it not do anygood , maybe i should stick to the ol ruger mini 14

lol i love that friggin gun ! thanks for the opinion led well the reason we wanted a compound bow is so our neighbors wont know what were doin back there in the woods , we moved to a new neighborhood thats out in the sticks about 3 yrs ago , and there is lots of game . the problem is is that our whole neighborhood is so stuck up , they call the police just for poppin firecrackers . so we gotta be silent . but it was fun seeing their faces while i had the big 4x4 utility quads lol the exhaust snorkels were noisy as hell ! i sware these are some of the snoodiest people in the world in my hood !

40# outta kill a bobcat no problem. The minimum for a deer is a 35# draw wieght.

I wouldn't shoot the mechanical broadheads with a low draw weight, stick with a traditional or as i like the full cut. Like a sabertooth with 2 bleeder blades.

 

I shoot a 75# draw wieght, hardest part is getting it back, but once I pass the wall I have an 85% letoff. I can hold it with my pinky. I shoot a PSE Baby-G

I'm not one for mechanical broadheads either. A good traditional head is as good as anything. I forgot what I have used last, but it shot as straight as my practice points. I shoot a 70# draw weight, with about a 85% letoff also. I think 40# would be iffy on a hog honestly, they have a very very tough hide and it's hard to break through with light draw weights.

I've got a PSE Nova, I really like it PSE is a good bow company. I bought mine about 9 years ago and it's accurate with awesome consistancy. Definately will drop a well shot deer. It's amazing the amount of force the PSE bows put into the arrow if I shoot the same arrow as my friends with higher draw rates my arrows always go deeper, I guess it all in the cams but I'm no expert. I use mine mostly for shooting carp and the occasional bull frog I don't have the time to bow hunt anymore.

well it can be tuned up to 50# if that fails ill just jump down there and cut the mofos head off

. I am still growing (at 15) so I decided to get a Browning Fury because it has a ten inch draw length adjustment. It will hopefully last me until I quit growing, then I'll be moving to a pse, bowtech, or hoyt. The more weight your pulling the better, you can take longer shots and still be confident you will pass through or at least make a clean shot. The pse might also be able to be cranked up higher than 50 #, mine is rated for 50-60 and and right now I'm pulling 78#. What kind of arrows will you be shooting (aluminum, carbon, etc)?

I would think 40# is iffy on hogs but other game at 30 yds or less should be fine, i personaly shoot a hoyt tenacity and is set for 70# draw weight and i use mechanical broadheads but the deer around here arent all that large either 160lbs is on the large end of the scale i thing the heaviest deer ive ever shot is around 120lbs. for hogs i wouldnt use a mechanical though. What is the cost for a non resident to hunt in texas? im wanting to go somewhere out of state next year and hunt.

I would recommend Easton XX75's if your planning on shooting aluminum. Best arrow for the price out there IMO. Everybody seems to have a different preference on broadheads, the best I have found (at least in combination with the xx75's) is 4 blade muzzy's. Bad to the bone.
