I bought a project 1998 banshee about a month ago.

I have installed new Wiseco 0.080 pistons. Honed the cylinders I only have 0.05 piston clearance. Installed used stator. Cleaned both carbs. I have 30 idle jets and 230 mains the needle are 1 groove from the top.

It has a dune port, DG pipes, Boyesen Pro series reeds, and open air box with KN.

The windows on both carbs are very foggy so I can't see thorugh them to syncronize the carbs. I did watch the slides both are opening at the same time.

Problem is the right cylinder is smoking white and runnnig lots cooler then the left. I think it is firing but not very well. I have raw fuel running out of the seem between the pipe and silencer. I have removed the plug and it does have spark. I have also checked compression both cylinders are the same.

Please tell me whats wrong with it.

Thanks

hey...i have a 95 and an 02 stock banshees. they both have pro design air intakes. They also smoke more out of the left cylinder than the right. hence, the right silencer/pipe is cooler. my compression is good and the same from left to right on both bikes. i can see in the sync windows on both bikes and they are right on. i think you'll find alot of posts on here about this condition. as for your leak, i used to have an exhaust leak at the mid pipe and black oily residue would escape. if this is what you have, then i think that is normal too. my 95 has run like this for 3 years with no rebuild. i hope this helps.

Na this is not normal. I have been runing 250R's and know what the normal 2 stroke black gunk is. This is just raw gas running out. I'm going to check my float level tomarrow, I'm guessing it is set way to high.

the only thing normal is the stock carbs screwing up. you said you cleaned the carbs, did you also clean the tank. my buddys had gunk in the tank holding the float needle open. his was also leaking out the vent tubes.

after you fix that problem you might want to check your jetting. it sounds real lean for a dune port and pipes, a 230 main is only 3 sizes over stock.

just my opinion

I got it fixed. I had to lower the float just a touch. I am wondering if my rings just hadn't seated in on that cylinder yet. I went out and rodded the hell outa it and it is running good now.

This thing is unreal fast compared to my old 250r :bolt:

i've had 3 250r's, I still have an 86, It's nice but I only ride it to make sure every thing is still working. My friends ride it mostly, we take it for a spare, usually someone breaks down.
