01bansheefox Posted October 31, 2004 Report Posted October 31, 2004 Just bought a banshee with 400 big bore kit and Trinity Stage 4 flat side carbs uhhhh He said it needs some pipes to get it going because it has some pos FMF's right now i guess. He said to get CPI?? But want to hear what you guys have to say, thanks. Quote
01bansheefox Posted October 31, 2004 Author Report Posted October 31, 2004 Also dont know what kind of port work and stuff, but he says he has around $800 in the porting and polishing. Quote
sredish Posted October 31, 2004 Report Posted October 31, 2004 (edited) What makes the FMFs a pos? Are they old and rusted out, or does he just not like them, why do they need to be replaced? The type of pipes to buy will depend 100% on your riding style. If you want low/mid, I'd say get some FMF Gnarlies or Paul Turner Midrange, depending on budget, but if your gonna dune and high speed trail, get some Toomey T5s, and if your gonna mainly drag, then get some CPIs. 01bansheefox Posted October 31, 2004 Author Report Posted October 31, 2004 Oh well i do all types of riding from Trails, to drag or just putting around on some hills. I thought maybe I would need some high class pipes for that type of engine. Quote
Oilsmoke Posted October 31, 2004 Report Posted October 31, 2004 Well I feel My friend Sredish miss alittle info, I don't believe that one can Pick a Pipe by riding style 100% when it has been Ported and it looks like he was going for top end power by the statment of need ( Get it going) if the old owner was thinking cpi he was looking for topend power. I would get the CPI's Finish what he started. Toomey T5 for a cheaper choice OR Shearer Or rocket's If he ported and spent 800 than I am thinking TOPEND . Quote
01bansheefox Posted October 31, 2004 Author Report Posted October 31, 2004 Well I wanted to get the rockets, pretty much just for looks "like the big pipes" but then again i want performance, This banshee has already been clocked doing 113mph and thats probably fast enough for me so acceleration should be more on what im focusing on. And hes running old fmf pipes, not sure what model. I think he was just saying If i wanted the full power to get some new pipes that are made more for the engine. Quote
superchicken Posted October 31, 2004 Report Posted October 31, 2004 This banshee has already been clocked doing 113mph and thats probably fast enough for me so SAY WHHAAAATTTT? if your she does that i dont think you need to change pipes Quote
Oilsmoke Posted October 31, 2004 Report Posted October 31, 2004 my Good Man that is a good 30 mph faster than my Shee. this a pretty Steep claim. So the Fatty suck at 113, Makes one wonder just how deep the shit is.Any quesses? Quote
01bansheefox Posted October 31, 2004 Author Report Posted October 31, 2004 Hey man i dont know lol this is just what the guy told me and he is only running 16/41 gears Umm.... He said to get more of a bang change the pipes so I just wanted to see what you guys thought about it. It does the 1/8 in like 6.2 or something. 98mph Quote
01bansheefox Posted October 31, 2004 Author Report Posted October 31, 2004 150 ohhhhhh ok thats a little 2 fast. Quote
Minkia38 Posted October 31, 2004 Report Posted October 31, 2004 busted! - your right - i can only hit the 145 mark..... thought Id round up Quote
01bansheefox Posted October 31, 2004 Author Report Posted October 31, 2004 Ok sooo it doesnt really matter what is done to the engine? Just get a pipe that I like or what? Also do any silencers fit any pipes?Or do they need to be the same brand? I like rocketpipes but dont like how there silencers look. Quote
Oilsmoke Posted October 31, 2004 Report Posted October 31, 2004 Yes it matter you don't port for topend and stick a lowend pipe on it. that is a waste. Quote
sredish Posted November 1, 2004 Report Posted November 1, 2004 my Good Man that is a good 30 mph faster than my Shee. this a pretty Steep claim. So the Fatty suck at 113, Makes one wonder just how deep the shit is.Any quesses? Now, Oilsmoke, you see why I went for the general "explanation" of pipe picking. Because, from his comment, I felt that the prev. owner was full of bullshit and was trying to sound... well... smart. But you're right, I didn't look deep enough into the comments on the portwork. It is right that if it's ported for Top End then you'll want some sort of a top end pipe. I'd say get a set of Toomeys, they'll give you some nice top end power that will work with just about any mid to top porting and still have great trailability compared to some drag pipes, in my opinion. Rocket pipes are supposed to be great drag pipes with a surprising amount of mid. Plus, the silencers have been changed. Hit up Minkia for a pic of the new style of silencers. They're really trick looking. Quote
