Toomey Banshee Posted October 28, 2004 Report Posted October 28, 2004 On my 94 if it has been sitting for a bit the brakes are really spongy. I'm thinking I have to bleed the system. Is it basically the same as a car? Basically the front res. is for the front brakes and the rear for the rear brake. I must have an air leak somewhere, I dont see fluid anywhere under the shee but the brakes do get fucked up after a sitting period. Quote

I'd replace all the fluid with new DOT4, you can get a vacuum to suck out the fluid from Auto Zone for around $20, or you can just pump it all out. But yes, the front handlebar-mounted rez is for the front two and the rear brake has it's rez behind the right rear-brake lever. Later. Quote
FIRST BANSHEE Posted October 29, 2004 Report Posted October 29, 2004 If it still feels spongy after you bleed the brakes, front or rear. check the rubber lines, they will expand under hard braking espeically if there starting to rot. braided lines make your brakes work much better Quote
mat Posted October 29, 2004 Report Posted October 29, 2004 I agree with both previous posts, especially sredish's. You need to change the brake fluid every few years. Brake fluid is hydroscopic and absorbs water over time, which, along with causing soft feeling brakes, causes the internal brake components to corrode. Quote

NickyPap Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 I recently added steel braided lines. everything seems to be working but still can't get any resistance on the lever. no leaks no more air (bubbles), fluid comes out of the bleeders when I crack it open -w/ tube looped and submerged into container of fluid. I think I need to get one of those pumps.I've pumped this frekin lever so much that now I know my sex life / brakes will be gone for atleast a week. any advice? (on the brakes j/k about the other thing) Quote
