racer Posted October 13, 2004 Report Posted October 13, 2004 where is the best place to do this. i put my cases on my bench for assmbley but both covers and the topend still have to go on, as well as a leak down test that needs to be performed. and how much trouble is it to get the motor in the bike when fully assembled. ive never tried that as i have always just redone topends with it still in the bike. fixitrod Posted October 13, 2004 Report Posted October 13, 2004 I always put the top end on in the frame just for weight reasons. I'm always by myself. Hell, I don't even put the flywheel or clutch sides on until the cases are in the frame. I'd imagine it'd be pretty heavy by yourself and maybe a little tough to fit it in there. Quote
racer Posted October 13, 2004 Author Report Posted October 13, 2004 yeah, it is friggin heavy. but the reason i ask is because i dont know if i can do a leak down properly while the motor is in the fame. Quote
fixitrod Posted October 13, 2004 Report Posted October 13, 2004 If you built your own tester just glue some elbow onto it so the pump and everything will reach outside the frame. I understand your question though. It seems like you should be able to fit it in the frame with some help. Just don't put the flywheel cover on so you can still get the chain on. Quote
racer Posted October 13, 2004 Author Report Posted October 13, 2004 good idea about the stator cover. get on AIM if you have a chance. Quote

. Posted October 13, 2004 Report Posted October 13, 2004 It's actually pretty easy to put one in fully assembled. They weigh like 90 lbs I believe, or was it 75.....I forget. If you decide to put it in assembled, leave the spark plugs out, it makes it a lot easier. Put it in from the stator side of the shee, its easier. Put down some rags over the frame, and if your frame is really nice, tape off the whole area with rags. Make sure you have all the motor mounts out as well. I forget what angle you have to go in on, but its pretty obvious (engine leaned forward or backward), one way it wont go at all and the other way it'll slide right in, and then you have to cock it to get it to drop between the 2 rear motor mounts, get that bolt through, and then the front ones and you'll be good to go Quote
NYUK Posted October 13, 2004 Report Posted October 13, 2004 left side footpeg off, gast tank out, sparkplugs out ,with a lil manuvering it will go in in one piece pretty easy. Quote
racer Posted October 14, 2004 Author Report Posted October 14, 2004 cool, thanks guys. now whould it be easier to have it PCed now or later? Quote
SDD Posted October 14, 2004 Report Posted October 14, 2004 Put your motor in with it assembled. There is always some dirt, sand, and dust that manages to fall out of somewhere and get into places where you don't want it. I put my motors in from the clutch side so I don't have to take the fuel tank off. You do have to unhook the rear brake lever though. Put some tape over the spark plug holes before trying to put the motor into place. Once you get it bolted in pull the tape and install your plugs. Quote
