1badshee350racer Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 I was out in badlands and it was dusty as hell and my banshee was kickin ass all day sat and most of Sunday till it started loosing mid really bad and i was like WTF. So i stopped and looked. The boot after the carb was soaked the clamp had come loose. So i went to change the plugs and one was dry and the other wet. And both were covered with sand. I changed plugs and it was fine for about a min then the same and I started to loose top and it just sucked. So what to do? top end rebuild and what else new boots and if so what kind of clamps are you guys using? i want this never to happen again i want the tightest motor ever nothing crazy just reliable. But still have balls and just wondering what I should do now? Here is my plan Wiseco racers choice 64.50 Wiseco Hot rod crank Shaved head UPP boots And some sort of clamp Would porting be worth it? Because I am running TR6 Quote
mat Posted October 13, 2004 Report Posted October 13, 2004 How much money do you want to spend? If you can afford it, then send your cylinders off to get them ported. Are you sure that you need a new crank, or do you just need a new top end? Personally I would have a lot of trouble buying a stock stroke crank. The +4mm stroker cranks don't cost much more than a stock stroke crank. And since you are considering porting anyway, you might as well get it ported for a stroker crank. As far as clamps, I was wondering the same thing myself. I have rejeted my carbs so many times that I have almost worn out the clamps. I have seen people use automotive style hose clamps, but they don't fit into the grooves in the boot correctly, so I would have concerns about these sealing up properly. Quote
1badshee350racer Posted October 13, 2004 Author Report Posted October 13, 2004 I figured on spending about a grand maybe 1500. Porting does sound like a good idea. What would the stroker crank do for me? also i really dont want to change the carbs but if it will help i'll do it. but i still want a very reliable motor to ride with and not having to worke on it everytime i take it out. so what to do....... Oilsmoke Posted October 13, 2004 Report Posted October 13, 2004 Sell them T6's Bro. Also remeber Strokers Like AIR. you may look in some bigger carbs too. Stock stroker cranks can be had for under 300 stroker are 500+ look at www.proflow.com for good crank afiar price. Carbs are cheapest new there I have found. Plan before you throw the cash or you will be over 2 G's in minites. Good setup strokers with the right part could be done for 1500 if you shop ebay. Quote
1badshee350racer Posted October 16, 2004 Author Report Posted October 16, 2004 (edited) ok new plan Hot Rod 4mm stroker Noss head w/19cc domes Bored and ported polished racers choice 64.50 34mm carbs "maybe" if not now next year 34mm boots Est. cost $1660 W/O carbs Does that sound any better? The guy who is doing all of my work at Madmanracing says i should have about 90hp by the time i get done with pump gas!!!! Does that sound right? is anyone running that same set up and if so how do you like it. Yesterday i tore apart my carbs and rebuilt them and it ran fine!!!!! althought i dont know what the pistons look like Duh... but i still plan for the new rebuild and am looking forward to it...... just wondering what you all think.... Oilsmoke Posted October 16, 2004 Report Posted October 16, 2004 Close to mine I run a long rod Compression is to high to run pump gas with my noss head and 19cc domes at 4300 feet. 180+ what are you planned rides ? wood, trial dunes, dragracing. Mx, Desert,Sand pits Coal hills? Quote
1badshee350racer Posted October 18, 2004 Author Report Posted October 18, 2004 i ride everything trail MX dunes all i want is MORE POWER. but now a new problem i cant get my motor started. It will only start with carb cleaner sprayed into then it will run fine. but then it runs kinda ok but i am missing power. i think there is not enought compression to pull the gas into the motor or something is in the jets but i have cleaned them twice now and it is getting annoying. has anyone had this problem before? Oilsmoke Posted October 18, 2004 Report Posted October 18, 2004 check & clean the fuel tanks petcock screen. Quote
1badshee350racer Posted October 18, 2004 Author Report Posted October 18, 2004 the carbs are getting fuel maybe not enough i'm going to drain the tank and do that it is just really pissing me off a lot and i never ever had this problem. Another thing it is kinda cold out now. i think that i'm going to turn on the heat in the garage and try and start it then that is what happened three years ago and it had to be rejeted but i am running 280 with the toomey's. is there any other ideas you guys can think of Quote
