Hey Y'all,

How do I go about setting up my PJ 34's to idle? I have the passion motor...and before I break it in, I wanted to know how to set up the idle so that I can check for any leaks without having to play with the throttle.

The carbs have the little nut where the choke is right? Where should I start? Do I turn it in clockwise all the way and then turn it out a certain amount of turns to get it started? Do both carbs usually use the same amount of turns? (To keep them in sinc?).

Any other suggestions with the PJ34's would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

T :whoa:

OK....

I took a look at my idle adjustment knobs. The left carb was adjusted to 7-3/4 turns, but the right carb was screwed all the way in. Do they both need to be set to the same adjustment?

Sorry, probably a stupid question...but I know you guys will know the answer.

Turn them all the way in clockwise and then turn them out 7.5 turns..

huh? exqueese me? baking powder, did you just say 7.5 turns out?

i have a keihin single 34mm pj. arnt you supposed to only go about 2-3 turns or so? i can only pull my choke about 1/4 inch because thats all thats left. are these carbs ment to have so many turns out because of the way there designed? i havent done a plug test but i though my pilot was to small. or did you just say 7.5 because he got a moded engine? :notworthy:

If any body knows the real reason why they dont idle I would like to know also. I have a set of new out the box pj 34s i just put on a ported motor and I cant get em to idle.

im running the 34 pjs with a ported motor..I got them to idle with my in frame cpi but now I cant get them to idle with the cpi out of frames...with the ported motor I had 160 mains and 58s for the pilots...just my 2 cents but I cant get them to work now ive been through 35-45 pilots just working my way up..cant find the right one yet if anyone has any info that would be great.thanks

I had the pj34's with just a standard ported motor and they did idle fine. I just got my passion motor put together and was wondering about the idle setup. I know that Jim told me not to worry about the idle until the jetting was done right...but I wanted to be prepared. I am going to try to get it broke in and attempt some jetting this weekend.

On another note, my bike idle'd before with two different settings on the carbs. Like I said...one was 7-3/4 and the other was all the way in. I don't know if that means my screws on the top of the carbs are adjusted differently, but that is how it was setup. Is this something I should worry about?

Thanks,

yes that is some thing to worry and have pannic attacs over.

are you getting both cyl's to fire ? sounds like one is not getting fuel so the piston has no lube and you will burn out one piston. but if it runs strong i have no idea. thats way out of my league.

It is supposed to be 7.5 turns out. If not, then you have either an air leak and maybe your cable is too tight and not allowing the slide to go back down.......When I bought my carbs, they specifically said 7.5 turns out and my shee idles perfect at that..... <_<
