peewee1 Posted September 21, 2004 Report Posted September 21, 2004 I have a 96 shee with pro circuit pipes, pro design filter, boyesen rad valves, running stock carbs with 360 mains, 30 pilots, needle clip 1 position higher, no snorkel, two 1 inch square holes cut in the top of the air box lid, no tors. It wants to cut out at high rpms. I live in northwest ohio, so there is not an elevation issue. I tried adjusting the air screw , no luck. then I took off the air lid and it ran great. Is this the right fix or do i need to try something else. Quote
J-Madd Posted September 21, 2004 Report Posted September 21, 2004 Is it "bogging" or is it actually "cutting out"? If it sounds like its choking, and smoking a lot, then its bogging and is too rich. If its crisp and kind of stuttering, it would be lean. It was bogging and rich. Taking the lid off leaned it out. That was the correct thing to do. You still may want to do a WOT plug check though. To make sure that you're not NOW running lean on the mains. Quote
Banchetta Posted September 22, 2004 Report Posted September 22, 2004 Taking the cover off will give you more hp's. If you need to leave it on, then just lean out the mains. By taking the air box cover off, your leaning it out. So w/ the cover on, you have to lean out the jetting. Quote
lincster Posted September 22, 2004 Report Posted September 22, 2004 Yep, too rich. I run 370 mains but I don't have an airbox. If you aren't going to ride in mud or water, leave the lid off. Quote
theeechozen1 Posted September 22, 2004 Report Posted September 22, 2004 try a 340 and shee should rev out clean Quote
peewee1 Posted October 6, 2004 Author Report Posted October 6, 2004 Did a WOT plug chop which says ive got detonation. thats going by the diagram i found on the internet Quote
Banchetta Posted October 7, 2004 Report Posted October 7, 2004 Are you getting silver speckles on the strap and outside ring of the plug? Quote
sredish Posted October 7, 2004 Report Posted October 7, 2004 Are you getting silver speckles on the strap and outside ring of the plug? glitter paint? on the plugs? Quote
bigboybanshee Posted October 7, 2004 Report Posted October 7, 2004 I don't see how you could be having detonation problems with that high of a main jet and the mods you listed. How long did you ride on the plugs when you did your plug chop? If you are lean it isn't from the jetting, you have an air leak somewhere. If you don't have any leaks I'd start off by dropping that main jet a couple sizes, mine choked on the top end when my main was too rich Quote
peewee1 Posted October 7, 2004 Author Report Posted October 7, 2004 When i did the plug chop. went out on the road, replaced the plugs with new ones. went first through sixth gear till it wound out in sixth. killed the motor pulled the plugs out put old ones back in went home chopped plugs. there were no silver specs. what would that mean if i had silver specs. Quote
Banchetta Posted October 8, 2004 Report Posted October 8, 2004 silver specs means that your piston is melting and detonating. If you don't have any silver specs, then how do you know its detonating??....post a pic of the plugs...Do another run w/ the old plugs and post a pic of them also..... Quote
peewee1 Posted October 8, 2004 Author Report Posted October 8, 2004 I was just going by a chart I found on here. It had a diagram of a plug pointing to the spots to read. I just looked at the diagram again and I was totally wrong. Gonna have to try this again. Ill be in touch Quote
