road racer Posted September 5, 2004 Report Posted September 5, 2004 I have a new barnett clutch which I believe is properly adjusted(lever points at case arrow at start of dis-engagement) Quad is ported and I just installed t5 pipes today. it has 15/41 gearing with 22" tires. It slips when I go to 6th. Could it be the oil or will it just not harness the new found power? Works awsome other than that. jetted with 340 mains, 30 pilots, stock needle in clip 5, box cover modded. Sound close? thanks, road racer Quote
Blue Duece Posted September 5, 2004 Report Posted September 5, 2004 (edited) what are you using for tranny juice? is it full? how did you do your springs? 1/2 aftermarket, 1/2 stock? all barnetts? all stock? at least an 1/8 play in your clutch cable? can you only feel it in 6th? you should feel it from a slow roll in a high gear also, its not the added hp, the barnett will handle it, all stock springs wont though, uneven torque on the springs will get slip also, alot of guys run 1/2 stock,1/2 aftermarket with lots of hp and have no problem, its a little less pump on the wrist, sometimes real dirty oil will give you some slip, i used to smell my stock clutch sizzle when id climb steep hills, but with less drag on the bike it didnt slip, and it's not the 22's either ive pulled those in sand with no slip and a barnett Edited September 5, 2004 by Blue Duece Quote
road racer Posted September 5, 2004 Author Report Posted September 5, 2004 Using all barnett springs. Could it be the oil? What kind of oil is considered the best? Quote
Blue Duece Posted September 5, 2004 Report Posted September 5, 2004 Using all barnett springs. Could it be the oil? What kind of oil is considered the best? some guys use ATF, i use honda 50 weight mostly but its 100 degrees where i ride.....as long as its full and clean...with all barnett springs you should have zero slip, did you install them dry, or soak them in oil first, is the basket damaged...... road racer Posted September 6, 2004 Author Report Posted September 6, 2004 They were soaked in oil before installation, basket looked good,no grooving. Quote
txblueshee Posted September 6, 2004 Report Posted September 6, 2004 Check above the the shifter where the clutch cable goes into the case... there should be an arrow there and an arrow on the cable linkage. If those aren't lined up then that can be youre problem. Mike Quote
MotulMonsta Posted September 6, 2004 Report Posted September 6, 2004 It wasn't synthetic oil was it? Ester based synthetics will bond to the fiber in the plates and reduce the friction and reduced friction causes clutch slippage. Also New clutch plates won't work their best until they are broken in a bit..they need a little wear on em. You did replace the clutch as a whole not just the fiber plates right? Your old stock metal plates won't work with the barnette's larger fibers plates. I'd go ahead and pull off the side case if you can't get it adjusted out on the clutch perch and pull the clutch apart again just to double check everything. Quote
