jjfizzle51 Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 i am thinking of buying the k&n filters that go directly onto the carbs but i hear if they fall off you have to rebuild the whole motor and i dont feel like doing that how do you guys keep them from falling off Quote
badshee98 Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 just make sure they are seated all the way on the carbs. and make sure the clamps are tight. never had any problems with mine. Quote
sheeweet Posted August 25, 2004 Report Posted August 25, 2004 What badshee98 said. And important you buy the outerwears too. I also used some plastic tie straps to further secure the outerwear's. Remember to rejet your mains! Quote
badshee98 Posted August 25, 2004 Report Posted August 25, 2004 yeah, i forgot about the outerwears. gotta have them unless you wanna fill your crankcase with sand. or dirt. Quote
decon Posted August 25, 2004 Report Posted August 25, 2004 dont get the mini k&n's, its a bad idea. just a k&n for the stock airbox or a 2:1 toomey air filter, which is way better. Quote
BdBanshee Posted August 26, 2004 Report Posted August 26, 2004 (edited) This is how I did it, works great and haven't come off in the 12 years I've had them like this. Edited August 26, 2004 by BdBanshee Quote
decon Posted August 26, 2004 Report Posted August 26, 2004 that looks better than the 2:1 air filter. how much for a set of those custom brackets? Quote
chugger Posted August 26, 2004 Report Posted August 26, 2004 thse brackets look dope. i havent had any problems with mine. just keep a close eye on them and the oputerwears are a must. with my mods i think i jetted mine to a 290 main but its been so long i cant remember what the needle clip is at. i have been thinkin about converting to alky but heard its a pain cleaning the carbs after each ride lates chris Quote
banshee5150sactown Posted August 28, 2004 Report Posted August 28, 2004 do you rejet any different than what the tommey inst. call for with normal air box mods? Quote
banshee5150sactown Posted August 28, 2004 Report Posted August 28, 2004 want to know where or who to get the coolant res. bracket from and if i will have problems keeping these on just clamped to the carbs Quote
banshee_punk Posted August 28, 2004 Report Posted August 28, 2004 nice mod job bdbanshee. i also have the k & n's on and have not had a problem with them slipping. make sure they end is free of the prepackaged oil. it can make them slip.. if they are tight it should be fine. it never hurts to double check they are on before you ride. i had to cut the air box stubs off the frame cuz they rubbed thru the outerwear. mine is jetted to 310 second notch from top. and is a perfect burn. and tank is simply zip tied to front frame. good luck. Justintoxicated Posted August 29, 2004 Report Posted August 29, 2004 (edited) the slanted K&Ns fit much better. Just ziptie your coolant bottle under the nose of your bike. It prevents coolant from splashing out onto your pipes when you locate it there. Edited August 29, 2004 by Justintoxicated Quote
sheeweet Posted August 30, 2004 Report Posted August 30, 2004 I got my K&N's from Rocky Mountain and they offered a cool coolant bottle relocator bracket. I ordered the bracket that has holders for spare plugs too. It wasn't that much $! Quote
