iceman Posted August 11, 2004 Report Posted August 11, 2004 Ok guys what do you think is best for MX? I really want to get a banshee but I never see them in MX or in any big sporting events anyways except for hill shooting and dragging. I want a banshee but I also want an MX quad. Am I better off getting a 250R or a YFZ450 or a racing quad along those lines? I want a Banshee so bad though it just seems all people do with them is drag and hill shoot. MX and Freestyle is where the money is at too. I need your guys input. I go back and forth whether or not to get a banshee or a race bike. I love racing and trail riding since that's all there is to do here. Am I better off with something different than a shee? Quote
ledofthezep Posted August 11, 2004 Report Posted August 11, 2004 I hope you're not planning on making money racing or doing freestyle on a quad...it's just 99% not possibly going to happen. Maybe some trophies or what not...but nothing to make a living on. But dreams are there for a reason. But to answer your question...this day & age, for freestyle & MX...a YFZ & plan to spend lots of $$ building it up & fixing what you f*ck up. Quote
fixitrod Posted August 11, 2004 Report Posted August 11, 2004 I have to say a 4 stroke is much easier to ride around a mx track. I been riding on some mx tracks lately and I kick ass on the straights... but that's about it. It's mostly rider on the track. I love the yfz450's. That is the closest you will get to both worlds of top end and bottom end on any quad out the door. You can really wake a yzf450 up by opening the airbox, taking the baffle out and adjusting the jetting to suite. That's about all you'd need to start mx'ing a yfz450. Jump a stock banshee and it's not going to be so easy on you. You have to shift and clutch a lot more on a banshee also. Now if you want to smoke your friends on straight, get and adrenaline rush just by hitting the gas and have just pure fun, the banshee is for you. It's also the easiest to mod. But, this is also just an opinion. Quote
iceman Posted August 11, 2004 Author Report Posted August 11, 2004 If you put Elka's on a Banshee does it make a HUGE difference in jumping? That's mainly what I like to do. Quote
MotulMonsta Posted August 12, 2004 Report Posted August 12, 2004 No dude, I race MX on my banshee and the thing just tears me up. I'm running costom axis shocks and I still get jarred around quite a bit. Saving up and waiting for a YFZ 450..Hopefully I can find a used one for cheap next year. Banshee's just don't cut it on the track...but that's not to say I'm not fast..It's just real hard on your body and tired you out way too fast. Quote
iceman Posted August 12, 2004 Author Report Posted August 12, 2004 (edited) I was talking about jumping big airs. I have come to realize that Banshees are just not made for MX. Does that mean they aren't good for jumping too though? If I put some Elka shocks on would I be good to go landing wise. Does it still bottom out easy? Or will it fling me off when I land easily? MotulMonsta Posted August 13, 2004 Report Posted August 13, 2004 You won't be able to stuff those nice 21in long travel shocks on a banshee chassis. The front frame rails are too far apart and the frame itself is weak. But if your really commited, get an outlaw chassis from lonestar...It'll have all honda parts except the engine and plastic. iceman Posted August 13, 2004 Author Report Posted August 13, 2004 I think I might try to finance a yfz450 I'm too into jumping and racing to be getting a banshee. I still love banshees and I'll probably buy one eventually but for now I'll just hold off. Quote
