sam97 Posted July 26, 2004 Report Posted July 26, 2004 I just got back from Silver Lake here in Michigan after breaking my Banshee. The shifter is stuck in what I believe to be 3rd and 4th gears. It doesn't ratchet like it used to, it is either up or down. Does anyone have any ideas on what this could be? I have heard that it could just be a part on the shift shaft that might be bent. I am really hoping this is it, because I do not want to have to have my case opened. I would trust myself to pull the motor and even do the top end, but not the trans. Please let me know what you think. Also, If I do pull the motor, I would like to do some mods while I'm there. I was thinking of adding a milled head. I know a guy who has a 30 under head for sale cheap. What would this affect on my motor? Any problems associated with this? Would I still be able to run 93 octane? I wouldn't need like aftermarket carbs or anything like that right? all I have is pipes and a k&N. Thanks a lot for any answers you guys have. Quote
frocashmoney24 Posted July 26, 2004 Report Posted July 26, 2004 if i had to take a guess, i would say the shifter piece fell off the shift star and is sitting on the nubs. pop off the clutch cover and give her a check, if ur in there, send the shift star to boonman and get the shift star mod, helps it shift smoother and find neutral easier, let us know after u pop that bad boy off Quote
SDD Posted July 26, 2004 Report Posted July 26, 2004 You should only have to remove the clutch cover. It's probably the claw piece that turns the shift star. Quote
BitchenBanshee Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 Yup.. Same thing happened to me. All I had to do is just move the shifter back and forth and pull out on it. That should put it back in place. Didn't even take the cover off!! A way to fix this is to put some washers between the shifter and the case. It keeps the shifter pulled out! Quote
sam97 Posted August 3, 2004 Author Report Posted August 3, 2004 As it turned out, the shift claw fell off the star as you guys said. Thanks for the tip. My shift claw on the shaft is a little loose, so I'm ordering a new one from an online dealer. I'm also planning on getting a modded shift star while I'm at it. Thanks again for the help. Quote
