SHEE00MAN Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 I have lonestar tie rods and i'm replacing my steering stem and i cant get the left side tie rod end out. There must be some kind of trick. I tried hitting around the tie rod but had no success. Also is there a way to put the nut pack on without the threads spinning. PLEASE help i've been waiting to ride this for 2 MONTHS!!! Quote
mrmatt Posted July 10, 2004 Report Posted July 10, 2004 Hit it harder. No wait, you said the threads are spinning, then the taper has let loose, why won't it come apart? Quote
SHEE00MAN Posted July 10, 2004 Author Report Posted July 10, 2004 They spin when i try to put em back in, i finally got them out now i can't get the nuts to thread on without them spining. Quote
streetshee Posted July 10, 2004 Report Posted July 10, 2004 ok,have u got an air wrench?if so take the joint back out,get a chisell and hammer and make a couple of light marks on the shaft,(not enough to do make em dangerous i mean) then put em back in and tap with a rubber or plastic hammer, take your air wrench and at same time put pressure on the joint and quickly as poss drive it on,but make sure uve got a good feel for how tight ur doing it,its very easy to overtighten them with an air wrench, also try recutting the threads and using a new nut,seeya.. SHEE00MAN Posted July 10, 2004 Author Report Posted July 10, 2004 no air wrench here, how do i get it to lock it in, it seems like it's a carriage bolt or something and the other side worked but this side is not cooperating AT ALL and i really need to ride. im having withdrawals... Quote
frocashmoney24 Posted July 11, 2004 Report Posted July 11, 2004 do you have a pair of big ass pliars? slip the tie rod end though the steering stem, grab it below the the steering stem knucke with the pliars, and run the nut on there. then when its in there, hold the tie rod "bolt" at a angle so its against the knucked at the farsent angle possible and that should hold it till ug et it the rest of the way on Quote
SHEE00MAN Posted July 11, 2004 Author Report Posted July 11, 2004 i got em in, i put a vive grip on it to hold it tight against the steering stem and i clamped it real ticght and it didn't move. Thanks for helping! Quote
