I bought my bansee used last year. It came with a wiesco piston (from a rebuild) and a K&N filter still in the airbox w/snorkel and stock pipes. I just ordered SST pipes that will be in anyday and I need to know where to start with jets. I assume the previous owner changed the jets after installing the airfilter and piston since it hasn't blown up yet, but I am at a loss on where to start.

My plan is to add the SST pipes and also remove the airbox lid (or at least remove part of it) to increase air flow. After all with new pipes it's more air in, more air out.

I ride in the Oregon sand dunes at sea level. From reading 100's of other posts I have determined that my bike will need anywhere from a 300-340 main jet and a 27.5-30 pilot jet with the needle at 4th position. But 300-340 is a huge difference should I start with 340 and work down or start in the middle? 320ish?

Is there anyone out there who is running something like this who can start me in the right direction? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am heading off for the holiday weekend next weekend and will be doing assembly on Thursday.

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Happy Trails!!

i'd start with a 300 u should be fat and u can work your way down from there.. change one jet at a time , the pilot can be changed after u got the main dialed in . after the main is good start your bike and warm it up. once its warmed up pull the choke out if it stays running your pilot jet is lean, if it shuts off and idles good u are pretty close .. make sure u do a plug reading after u adjust the mains each time ..

I have the same pipes and filter (no box lid) on 2nd over piston and ride at Pismo Beach. I run 280 mains and stock Pilot jet which is 25. My bike runs really well at Pismo and has for the last few years I've had it there.

;) your main first, start at 300, then your needle clip position, then your pilot. dialing the main in first is key.

then let 'er rip.

Thanks for all the advice. After playing and working on the jetting for what seemed like eternity I managed to get the jetting close. It took a 300 main jet, and needle jet in the 4th position with stock pilot jets - although I did have to adjust the air screw. This setting is starting to create and medium brown mocha color on my plugs after riding on it for a 1/2 hour and doing a WOT test on it.

I still have my air box lid on however. I ran it with the lid off and it was running hot and when I checked the plugs there was no coloring at all. So I put the lid on and rechecked it.

Now do I aim for a medium dark brown or a dark (not black) brown on my plugs? Does anyone have pictures of what color the plugs should be? How fast should they turn the brown color?

I'm thinking a 330 main with the lid off might be close to get a little more power out of it. Although with the SST pipes, K&N filter and air box lid on I was beating banshees with T-5's, duel filters, no box and reeds. Overall I was very impressed with the SST pipes.

Thanks for everyones help.
