Hockey390 Posted June 26, 2004 Report Posted June 26, 2004 Hey, I just put on my AC Racing 6-pack rack... Looks good and all, and it fits my 2 gallon gas can almost perfectly.. BUT, I want others with 6-pack racks to post and tell me if this is normal... Notice the silencer's position and how if you put something in the rack, it either sits on, or rubs the silencers on both sides.. this could be bad if you ride a long time, because wont it MELT? Just curious to see if its because I have the Q series or if its because the rack is bunk. Quote
brock_fuzzy_69 Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 i got a used 6 pack rack taht had an AL plate welded on it in place of that dropped portion i am assuming for that exact reason Quote
grounded Posted June 27, 2004 Report Posted June 27, 2004 mine is the same way, my cooler is damn near touching the silencer tip but it does'nt melt or heat my tecates up too fast Quote
Hockey390 Posted June 27, 2004 Author Report Posted June 27, 2004 so the silencer doesnt get hot enough to melt into a cooler or a gas can? I could care less if something melts, but I dont want gas pooring out by my exhaust...that wouldnt be good. Quote
anufsed Posted July 10, 2004 Report Posted July 10, 2004 You need to space the silencers away from the rack. Toomeys have about 1" on my AC 6-pack... Hmm Quote
sweetshee4312 Posted July 11, 2004 Report Posted July 11, 2004 if ur worried, just put a wool cloth over it.. wool doesnt really melt or burn.. cotton would work ok too..., or shape a peice of metal.. and weld weld weld Quote
prichard9966 Posted July 18, 2004 Report Posted July 18, 2004 the dg will fit better on your bike. sell the ac on ebay and buy one that works with your pipes. Quote
Noob Banshee Posted July 18, 2004 Report Posted July 18, 2004 Yeah you could weld a little bracket, but.... alum is hard to weld it's got to be TIG welded on. Trust me i know im a welder and i'm still taking classes..... i seen what happens when gas hits the exhust pipe Quote
racer Posted July 18, 2004 Report Posted July 18, 2004 alum is hard to weld it's got to be TIG welded on. no, it can be mig'd. you have to use i think pure argon and you have to change the wire and the liner that runs to the torch but it can be mig'd. do you really think that all of those companies who weld aluminum take the time to tig it, hell no. tig is too expensive, both in materials and in time to be used in mass production lines.
