LIsurfer_ Posted May 25, 2004 Report Posted May 25, 2004 OK I have finished breaking in my motor....during the rebuild I also upgraded to FMF fatties from stock pipes. I currently have a Toomey 2 into 1 filter as well. My elevation is around 900' and I am running stock carbs with 290 mains and 30 pilots......Is this a good place to start or should I change before doing a plug chop? Thx Quote
J..J. Posted May 25, 2004 Report Posted May 25, 2004 I reckon you're in the ballpark. Mine: Fatties/K&N/No-lid/V-Force, at 1500 feet, 320Mains, 30 pilot. Quote
Banchetta Posted May 25, 2004 Report Posted May 25, 2004 sounds like a good starting point...maybe rich on the pilots, but try it out.. Quote
LIsurfer_ Posted May 25, 2004 Author Report Posted May 25, 2004 yeah its definitely rich on th epilots...I had a pretty healthy bog from idle but I figured during break in it would not hurt. Do you think I should go back to 25 pilots or try 27.5's? I have the 25's but will have to order 27.5's. Thx Quote
sredish Posted May 25, 2004 Report Posted May 25, 2004 sure, give it a shot with the 25s and if need be, order the 27.5s after you see how the 25s work. Scott Quote
bigboybanshee Posted May 25, 2004 Report Posted May 25, 2004 I think that would be a great starting point, especially with the air filter you're running. Are those 290's the ones I sent ya? Quote

bigboybanshee Posted May 25, 2004 Report Posted May 25, 2004 Cool beans...glad to hear you got em Let us know how this all turns out!! Quote
LIsurfer_ Posted May 26, 2004 Author Report Posted May 26, 2004 ok I put in the 25's...... much better but I think I f'ed up.......I bought a 13 tooth front sprocket...holy uncontrollable powerband Batman............I can not keep the back tires from blazing up......but I know how to fix that ...get me a 14....but another question........as I go throught the gears at a slower pace it seems to hesitate near mid throttle.......my pipes even seem to go silent..u know no nice ping ping ping sound.....I wont be able to do the plug chop till this weekend...no place near home to stretch it out...so with this info what should I be prepared to change this weekend? I want to know what to bring with me to the track.....Thx 4 tha help Quote
sredish Posted May 26, 2004 Report Posted May 26, 2004 what clip is your needle in, if you said already, sorry, didn't see it. Just play with your needle some, richen it one more (since you leaned your pilot) and see if it runs better. Scott Quote
LIsurfer_ Posted May 26, 2004 Author Report Posted May 26, 2004 sorry Dyno Jet needles middle clip....so richen would be to move it towards the top of the carbs Quote
sredish Posted May 26, 2004 Report Posted May 26, 2004 sorry Dyno Jet needles middle clip....so richen would be to move it towards the top of the carbs richening would be moving the clip down/away from the top/blunt end, and leaning the needle is moving the clip up/towards the top/blunt end. Hope that makes sense. Quote
LIsurfer_ Posted May 26, 2004 Author Report Posted May 26, 2004 If I would have thought about it for a sec ....Yes it does make sense...the less needle in the hole the more gas........the more needle in the hole the less gas...got it Quote
fixitrod Posted May 26, 2004 Report Posted May 26, 2004 I agree, if it wants to die it's lean... if it sputters it's rich. Quote
