LIsurfer_ Posted May 14, 2004 Report Posted May 14, 2004 I fired it up for the first heat cycle and the cylinder base gasket had a leak..it ran for a minute or two. Will this cause a problem? Should I change the oil before resuming the next heat cycle? Also should the engine be making a high pitched sound as the rings seat to the cylinder wall? It was making a screeching kind of sound that had me a little nervous...Thx 4 tha help........ Quote
cgamla Posted May 14, 2004 Report Posted May 14, 2004 Your cylinder base gaskets not only seal the water in but they also seal ouside air out. If you have a base gasket leak you can possibly run lean on that cylinder. That can lead to another rebuild. No screeching and squealing is not normal. Stop and figure out whats making that noise before you wreck somthing. Quote
frocashmoney24 Posted May 14, 2004 Report Posted May 14, 2004 get a new gasket, and tighten it down again, did u use the right torque for the bolts? screetchin aint right, i'd check it out man Quote
LIsurfer_ Posted May 14, 2004 Author Report Posted May 14, 2004 (edited) Yeah I torqued em to 20 pounds in three steps.....just one leaking and it aint even one of the two hard ones to get at.........I am gonna rip it down again 2nite...I am hoping that what I thought was screeching was just the air making a whistiling type noise from the leak.......shit! SDD Posted May 14, 2004 Report Posted May 14, 2004 LIsurfer make sure the rings are seated properly. Sometimes the rings will rotate and slip off the pins in the pistons when putting the cylinders on. Quote
