LIsurfer_ Posted May 13, 2004 Report Posted May 13, 2004 I am putting the top end back together tomorrow and have searched for a good break in procedure. I plan on doing the heat cycles and short rides at 1/4 1/2 3/4 throttle to be sure everything seats properly. During the rebuild I acquired some pipes, and am now worried about my jetting as I will not be able to do a plug chop for the first few rides. I have a .20 over stock motor, Toomey 2 into 1 air filter with outerwear, and now FMF Fatties. My current jetting is 290 mains 30 pilots and Dyno Jet needles 3rd clip. Am I ok to run this jetting for break in? Thx Quote
pimp559 Posted May 13, 2004 Report Posted May 13, 2004 You'll be fine with those jets. You should run the oil a little rich on the first half tank. Let us no how shee does. Quote
SDD Posted May 13, 2004 Report Posted May 13, 2004 I mix my oil at the usual ratio but put in a richer main jet. If you add more oil to the gas you lean the amount of fuel going to the combustion process. You want it to have a little extra oil to help wear things in properly but not at the cost of leaning it out and causing heat. I would put in a 320 main for the first tank of gas then rejet to what the machine should be running. Quote
MotulMonsta Posted May 13, 2004 Report Posted May 13, 2004 I'll jet super rich, run a mix of 16:1 with the choke on and idle it for 2 min. then let it cool down and idle again for 2 min...cool down then idle and putt around for 10 min...cool down keep up the pattern until those 2 gallons of 16:1 are down then mix more 16:1 and this time putt it around without the choke never going over 1/4 throttle. After that I run a race mix of 32:1 and putt it around not going over 1/2 throttle after those 2 gallons mix me up some more and just ride it easy for a day then hammer the shit out of it. Then re-jet for optimal performance. The key is to get those rings to seat, you give it too much juice too soon, you'll snag a ring and ruin your day. I usualy take 3 days to break a motor in..then after that it's race time. My motors are good for years..I had one last me 4 years and it still was making damn good power. Quote
