it will start up and idle but will not pull itself u have to hold the throtttle in some to keep it running and if u open it up all the way it wont rev anymore its revs to a high idle thats it

im not sure but i know when mine needed a rebuild mine did the same thing i would not start unless i pushed or pulled it off and it would hardly pull my weight if you have a compression checker check it or go the the stealer ship it will be like 10$ to get the to check it im pretty sure if it lower then about 110or 100 its gonna need a rebuild

Well, If you have good compression, then maybe you carbs are off?, are the sliders in the correct carb? (there is a left and right) and that will make all the difference in the world, and since you may have taken that apart for your rebuild the it is possible you switched them. Also if that isnt it, then maybe your CDI is bad, but I bet the problem lies in your carbs. Check your carb boots, and all seals.

it sounds like a parking brake switch, not sure if a 97 has it or not.that switch wont let the rpms go past much more than idle.unplug the tors box under the left side of the gas tank and see if she wile fire up

i unhooked the tors. the black box the wires on the carbs and the parking brake wire is that all i have to unhook. do i have to hook any wires together. i tried testing my stator. i got juice thru one wire it was the yellow wire and thats it. is that the only one that is suppose to have fire?its a 97 banshee
