J-Madd Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 A rebuilt motor with about 4 hours on it locked up. Took it apart and one cylinder head and piston was pitted and covered in metal shavings. Rod bearings seem to have a lot of play. There are scars on the skirt of the piston as well. Could bad rod bearings cause this damage? {This is not my Banshee} Quote
roosthrower Posted May 7, 2004 Report Posted May 7, 2004 it sounds like your friend forgot to attach the tube between the two carbs that keeps them in sync. this will cause one cylinder to run extremely lean. did the shee run like shit before it locked up? did it sound like was hitting on one cylinder only? I think when I ran without the tube my left cylinder was the one that was running like shit. Quote
boonman Posted May 7, 2004 Report Posted May 7, 2004 Why was it rebuilt this time? When it was rebuilt, did you clean out the bottom end REALLY GOOD?? Becaue my bet is that some shit was down in the lower rod bearing. ANd it failed. I had the EXACT same thing happen. You will need to rebuild the crank now..... Quote
J-Madd Posted May 7, 2004 Author Report Posted May 7, 2004 It was rebuilt before he bought it. What goes in to rebuilding a crank? Rod and crank bearings? He can't afford a new crank. What's the cheapest way to get him back on the road? Quote
frocashmoney24 Posted May 7, 2004 Report Posted May 7, 2004 if the cranks ok, get new bearings all around for the crank, put em in, clean out the bottom really good, new top end from like weisco and he's good, plus a new head if its pitted bad Quote
