QuadMX Posted May 5, 2004 Report Posted May 5, 2004 Before I tear my engine apart....I was ridin the other day for about 5 minutes, all sudden it just bogs down real bad, has power, but barely. Didn't really notice anything, let it sit for a couple days. Drove around earlier, did the same. Changed the carbs (I had stocks on, I put my new 28mm on) and checked for spark just to make sure. Then changed plugs to be on the safe side. New carbs, new plugs, and still spark. Changed the fuel lines to some new stuff and tried again. Ran fine for not even a minute and blah, did it again. It's only running on the left side. I dunno what else to check. So before I start ripping stuff out, anything else I could check on or double check on? Quote
QuadMX Posted May 5, 2004 Author Report Posted May 5, 2004 I haven't check yet... The head gasket too I was gonna look at. You think that could be it? Quote
Banchetta Posted May 5, 2004 Report Posted May 5, 2004 Doesn't sound good, I'd look internally first.....like a compression test, at least that would eliminate any motor problem, then take the next step.. Quote
Cotton eyed Joe Posted May 5, 2004 Report Posted May 5, 2004 (edited) I haven't check yet... The head gasket too I was gonna look at. You think that could be it? You need to see if you still have that cereal box laying around that you made the gasket out of for your snowmobile this winter. You if you don't have compression, wouldn't it get better as it got hotter? When its cold, I thought there was more ring/bore clearance than when its heated uo, and in most cases wouldn't start. Dunno....just throwing it out there for you. You checked spark, so I don't think it would be the stator going out when it gets hot. But then again....I've never experienced these types of problems....hehe..... It starts fine, but then only runs on the left cyl..... Edited May 5, 2004 by Cotton eyed Joe Quote
banshee04le Posted May 5, 2004 Report Posted May 5, 2004 (edited) Reed starting to fail...possibly cracked??? Sounds like a leakdown test may also be in order. Edited May 5, 2004 by banshee04le Quote
frocashmoney24 Posted May 5, 2004 Report Posted May 5, 2004 ake ur head off this winter? maybe u warped it....compression test, check the reeds! Quote
QuadMX Posted May 6, 2004 Author Report Posted May 6, 2004 LOL...good ol cereal box gaskets! Gotta love them...No I didn't take my head off this winter. I was thinking about the reeds being shot. I was gonna ask about that next cause I just got compression check and it's 150 on each cylinder. If I knew what a leakdown test was, maybe I could do it, but til then, I'll check the reeds...Better not be ruined, those were new carbon fiber reeds! Quote

Really...maybe pull them out and give them an inspection. Quote
Banchetta Posted May 7, 2004 Report Posted May 7, 2004 compression is good, but boggs out after riding for a while.....Is your gas tank vented properly?? Are you getting plenty of fuel before the carbs?, The petcock could be plugged.... Quote
QuadMX Posted May 7, 2004 Author Report Posted May 7, 2004 I'll try messin with the petcock once. I still have the fuel filters on it so maybe those are blocked. It looks as though its getting enough fuel when I look at the lines though. Also, I checked my reeds and they are fine yet. So now more work tomorrow! Quote
QuadMX Posted May 7, 2004 Author Report Posted May 7, 2004 Cause I love having gas all over my lap. Quote
